  • I've found FuzzDog to be good too from a previous recommendation on this thread

    https://shop.pedalparts.co.uk

  • Is that the Pro Guitar Shop guy? God he's good!

  • I think these are a little more affordable and very good nonetheless. There are a few on eBay as well, depending on what you're after, can't remember their name but they have a cat's skull them? They definitely do a Red Llama which is why they were on my radar...

  • Mrs EB absolutely smashed Christmas getting me a signed copy of this!

  • Very cheap (half price) MIJ jazzmaster-bodied Teles in the sale on the Fender site - https://www.fender.com/en-GB/winter-sale-guitars/made-in-japan-limited-offset-telecaster/5300102340.html

  • Thanks for that @Regal too tempting, have taken a punt on a butterscotch one 👍

  • Nice, hope you like it! I have one with P90s that I’m really fond of.

  • Whoa! Enjoy, looks great in Butterscotch!

  • Standberg Boden anyone?

Guy on fretboard selling one and I’ve just pinged him saying I’ll take it. Horrible mistake?

  • Any headless I've played has felt great and Strandberg are supposed to be the best so if the aesthetic is for you you'll probably love it!

  • Picked it up on Friday and had a couple of days before I could change the strings, sort out the action and so on. Initial reaction is that its superb - a real focus on functional design

    These are the sellers pics

  • That. Is an abomination! In the eye of the beholder and all that 🤣

  • Nice! I'd love a headless multi-scale six string. Had a seven string Kiesel Vader for a while, only sold it because I didn't really gel with the extra string.

  • Ha - yeah, I get that it’s a little marmite. But if you want to stick with your lute then that’s cool.

It’s a really nice bit of kit but more interestingly it (to me at least) really brings home how visual guitars are. Its so much about the look, whether the classic shapes or the crap designs that we put up with (taking a neck off to adjust a truss road ffs, the crap Tele bridge, or stupid placing of the start volume knob). Or for that matter all the wood nonsense - large head strats have better sustain, people that claim they can hear the difference between ash and alder, and so on.

You get get the sense when you pick this up that Strandberg has thought about each part - what’s needed, what would work best - and arrived at this design.

The lightness and compactness is fantastic - especially in a central London flat where the guitar sits between a cello and piano. Lifting the strat up was like carrying a scaffold pole through a glass shop.

Only thing I’m not sold on is that it lacks the large forearm rest area (or something - I need to pick up the strat again to check what I actually do) for funk - my arm feels a little unconnected. But, yeah, I’m pretty happy so far.

  • Did a nice job on my son's Squier Mustang, for the cash these are nice guitars. 30 quid pickups, new scratch plate and a set up. Happy days.

  • I've got a hard case going free, which is pretty tatty. I wouldn't walk around with a pricey guitar in it, trusting the catches. But it might be fine for someone who wants to store a guitar. Needs to be picked up in the next couple of days from Catford or it's going (somehow) in the bin.

  • Can anyone recommend a luthier North/West London/Home Counties to revive a sentimental acoustic?

  • Not quite, but a good mate of mine in Ely is the safest pair of hands imaginable. He makes beautiful guitars and does repair work too. https://www.swannellguitars.co.uk/

  • Cheers Sparks, hope you're well dude.

  • All good. Starting the big house renovation this week, so entering a few months of chaos. But hopefully staying sane and finding the odd minute for a noodle on the one guitar I haven't packed away in storage.

  • I'm not sure if this is best asked here, or over in the Home DIY thread, but as there might be some cross over, I'll start here.

I've been building a new pedalboard over the last week or so. Oak, with a birch ply base and shelf.

I've got some Osmo for the oak, left over from when we had new doors fitted, but what about the ply? Osmo as well, or something else?

  • I did an osmo finish on my birch plywood desk - it looks great and has stood up well to 3+ years so far.

  • That’s really good to know. This needs to be hard wearing. Do you recall what Osmo you used?

I’ve just looked at what we have, and it’s (unsurprisingly) Door Oil, which isn’t recommended for ply.

  • I’ve used danish oil on DIY ply shelves, it looks good but absorbs more and quicker than on hardwood. Just seems to need more coats.

  • Found some fun used stuff in (usually shite) local music shop today. A very cute white wood Fender Pro Jr for a crazy good price (might nab that actually), an AC30C2 for £430, only catch is that it’s purple and this BEAST: Peavey classic something… s/s pre-amp and two 6L6s in the power section: £109! Wish I had the space for it.
