Nothing beats the stressful little rush you get from a shit weather forecast on the last day available to complete a RRTY ride.

what are your plans for next year? you did SR, PBP and (or are still the process of) RRTY. What's next?

It wasn't too bad in the end, couldn't feel the toes on my right foot but otherwise good. Lovely route and the tailwind (as predicted here) was excellent. Will send off gpx track for validation and get ready for Bucks Winter Warmer next weekend... Forecast looking fun for that one too.

2023 was a good audax season. I don’t think I quite made the top spot on the Fixed Wheel Challenge, but I managed a Hyper Fixed Wheeler (1200, 1000, 600, 600) and logged over 11,000km of fixed wheel rides. Apparently only 12 people have ever got the Hyper so that’s kinda cool I guess.
I’m currently doubled up on the RRTY so will hopefully get my 5xRRTY by March.
Next year I’ll be riding more gears for sure. A friend has just finished building up a tandem for us so we’ll have a bash at an SR series on that. Could be fun. Could be terrible.
I’ve also just entered TransAlba which will be my first race. It basically starts on my doorstep so seems rude not to…

Maybe the year of my LEL attempt, I could see two 600s that year with LEL but the 1000 sticks out like a horrendously sore thumb.
-
• #12933
It doesn’t need to be a 1000 though, just needs to be four rides of 600 or more.

Bravo. All very inspiring as someone setting out aiming to do my first Fixed Brevet 500 or maybe Randonneur 500 this season!

Was wondering what your plans were for LEL, so is going to be fixed!

Anyone done MGM and have the route or know when it's running next?

Fast Times returns for 2024 for its 3rd iteration from Dulwich Scout Hut on 4th May. Route largely unchanged though there might be one or two surprises in terms of finish venue, TBC. It's 3.25 AAA but it's never gratuitous.
https://www.audax.uk/event-details/11193-fast_times_in_the_high_wealdIf I get organised I'm also half-thinking of a running late summer 300 from SE London, pending jumping through the various hoops.

Probably 2026, given the there was a 2018/2022 event?
-
• #12942
Yep, I got some info off yacf that suggested every 4 years but Covid messed a few schedules up so who knows. I emailed them but didn't get a response.

Have entered the BCM for the first time and I’m excited to see more of wales. Looking forward to Not training and then moaning about being unfit the entire way round.
Would like to do a Scottish audax to see more of the highlands… any suggestions?

Moulin Muirs would be a good one. Takes in some amazing scenery and starts close to Dundee.
One of the (potential) problems with Scottish audaxes is that they often start in smaller towns so getting to them can be tricky.
Lumpy Bannocks tae Spott starts in Edinburgh and looks good as well. I’ve not ridden that route but I’ve done all the roads before and they’re great.Lucy’s events are all excellent as are Niall’s but they start outside of Edinburgh; The Snow Hare Takes the Scenic Route and Och Hills! for example.
And if by highlands you mean the literal Highlands, then Andy Uttley runs a load from Inverness. To be honest, you can’t go wrong with any of the rides up that way (unless the weathers total crap, of course). The North Coast Classic 600 would be hard to beat for the views.

Also, I don’t think it’s running as an event next year but The Snow Roads perm is very good.

Thinking about doing the BCM having never done a 600 before. I don't know how you would even train for it apart from ride up lots of hills and then buy smaller chainrings the week before.

Nailed it.

This is on my short list. Have you ridden it before or just know the roads?
Wish it didn't clash with Kernow though - I want to do both!

Easy then, I guess.

Official PBP '23 results finally up -
Next year's event has just gone in the planner, early signs are suggesting it's going to be a sunny year : )
I did half the Ditchling Devil in the opposite direction the other week, which was quite an enjoyable variation.Though attempting to leave SW London during SUV school run traffic is not the one.
