  • It gets more and more Florida.

  • Have we just been massively Rick Rolled?

  • I watched the last 10 minutes before fireworks. He should take that singing lark up as a career, I reckon he has a future.

Unsure where to put this non-news, but thought it’s worth noting how far removed the mild to mid-level wealthy are from “normality”. Encompassing 6 villages paying them rent, the estate surrounding their family seat measures 11,000 acres, or 5,500 football pitches.

  • I once won a touring bike on Ebay, took a train out to Kent to collect it and the owner picked me up from the train station in an old vw estate to go and see the bike. Nothing unusual so far...

We pull up to a house, not dissimilar to the one in that link, and what goes though my head is 'this is probably a national trust site and he works here'. He pulls up to a garage, bike is leaning up against the door, and at that point I twig that there are a variety of vintage cars and it was probably his house.

He was called Barnaby Swire, is a billionaire, and was as enthusiastic about bikes and cycling as anyone I've ever met. I'm sure he is completely detached from normal life, but he was selling things on ebay and we had cycling in common.

  • Wiki:

Swire is a significant donor to the Conservative Party.

  • I'm so happy that they landed on their feet. Jeez.

  • This, for sale from a guy that runs an ‘artisan’ food company.

  • Cheese store?

  • Mushroom monger?

  • Olde Fashyoned Penicillin Shoppe?

  • America and Stanley cups. WTF is going on, people queuing overnight for a cup......

  • My Instagram feed has been taken over by people talking evangelically about those big ass ugly things. Never heard of them.

  • I looked into this for a client last month. In short- back in 2019 a suburban mom magazine rediscovered Stanley, and convinced their readers that the Quencher was the perfect, ultimate mom cup. They even leveraged a minor recent tv celebrity who had just given birth to to promote the bottle as the perfect maternity bottle (new parents will know this is a thing, and there’s loads of them out there). Secret was, they bought loads of the bottle to flog on their website, and when they sold out thousands in under a week they realised they’d hit on something.

Fast forward a bit and Stanley also noticed its sales and online engagement being newly driven by 21-45 y/o moms, so they bring in Terrence Reilly. (https://www.inc.com/ali-donaldson/this-marketing-pro-got-crocs-on-every-celebrity-from-bad-bunny-to-justin-bieber-now-hes-the-one-behind-the-stanley-tumbler-you-cant-escape.html). Now he’s convinced every other mom in America that these things are a scarce valuable commodity, and that’s why you get fistfights at Target.

  • Not quite the same level of wealth but a very long time ago a friend won a treadmill on ebay and went to a nice house to collect it, it was Chris Evans who answered the door, I was surprised at a multimillionaire disposing of stuff on ebay, although the treadmill had mainly been used by billie piper apparently

  • Thank you, I'll continue using my 1.8l George of Asda thermos that I bought for £6.

  • Good intel, thanks!

  • wait untill the gravel dads find out about the Stanley adventure hipflask and shot glass set...

  • I've had a Stanley hip flask for about ten years. It works well and is compatible with the full spectrum of outdoor adult beverages, from fireball to single malt.

  • I don’t understand the need for shot glasses, it implies I’m sharing and can get in the bin. I do have my own collapsible shot glass though if anyone else is carrying a flask of something nice.

  • I don’t understand the need for shot glasses

I do have my own collapsible shot glass though

Sounds like you do understand :-)

Guess it's a bit more hygienic than passing around the flask.

  • I feel seen.
