  • Brompton hub adjustment. I have seen all the videos but would like to confirm that in second gear it needs to show 1mm of the full bar, rather than 1mm of the bar where the flexible bit is attached. Thanks

  • This might not be good advice, but I don't go by the 1mm rule - it worked for me as a n00b years ago, and then at some point I couldn't work out why it didn't, and put it to stretched gear cable or potentially something to do with the hub.

    I normally expose closer to 2-3mm as a starting point (the solid bit of the rod, no chain) and then adjust until the shifting feels right. If I've replaced gear cables too, I end up needing to make tiny adjustments about a month later anyway.

    More recently, I've had good success by just remembering how much thread is exposed on the opposite end of the indicator rod/chain.
