  • How are you doing? Did you heal up well?

  • Rack/basket/guards = Winter commuting.

  • So far, so good. I’m still in physical therapy for my left knee and hand. My left knee is crunchy. I’m still getting use to that feeling but I’m able to bike with no issues.

  • Gaston saves Xmas once again 🌲🎅

  • Yap, that’s perfect! The only minor imperfection is the fact that Soma HWY 1s are not BDHU compatible…

  • Merry Chrismas

  • Recently picked up this Geoffrey Butler from WelwynWheelers via @fgcx and have since set about ruining it.

I've fitted a drilled fork and front brake (unfortunately it's straight, but what can I do) Mudguards and a larger rear cog.

I just need a brake lever and some foot retention and then I'm sorted for a lock-up bike.

  • Road pedals and 30c tyres.

A crankset away from being my ideal road bike.

  • Looks nice - bdhu though

  • I got this Raleigh Richmond for £30. I had one years ago and wanted something classy-looking again.

    First steps:

    • New cables
    • New saddle
    • New brake calipers

    Decisions to make:

    • Keep 27" steel wheels or swap for 700c, and if so, which? - any input welcomed
    • New handlebars?
    • Keep shifter or get a bar-mounted one

It's a bit rustier than it looked in the pictures, and so I was amazed when the seatpost moved.

  • You think? I thought the transition was pretty level, although there is a dip. BDHU would be more comfortable.

  • I think the point of bdhu is that the transition should not be level.
The bottom of the drops should be level - and a little dip between the ramps and the hoods.

  • I think the point of bdhu is that the transition should not be level.

I think the point of assembling your own bike is that you can set the contact points to maximise your own comfort and efficiency, without being a slave to the vagaries of spurious aesthetic fashions.
In my lifetime, fashion has swung from levelling the bottom of the drops to pointing them at the rear axle and back again in cycles which have as much to do with biomechanical science as does the length of women's skirts.

  • Due to an elbow injury I set about building a bike for needed comfort and something to do whilst I was at home recovering.
It's a bit of monstrosity, but I like it. My take on a klunker and always wanted to have a cadex.
The fork is aftermarket 400mm a-c disc that I had lying around.
Only things I want to change is probably getting the handlebar higher with some kind of extender and another saddle. Unfortunately the gobi I got for it was lost in the post.

  • Such an ugly stem. Good work!

  • loooove that, excellent bike

  • Looks great! I was a bit cadex-curious myself recently. Mainly because I saw the dropouts and thought they might be replaceable. While I was after horizontal dropouts for singlespeedin' I found these CAD files. Thought I would share them here in case you want to run a disc in the rear too.

  • Haven't built a track bike in 7+ years but needed a winter project to tinker on. Ongoing.

  • ..Tom innit?! I'll slide in your DMs these days. Read about Oxford and kids and been a wee while.

I recently became susceptible to the BMX aesthetic. Missed that in my yoof I reckon. And find me a 40mm 25.4 stem that's not a BMX one. Also, 10 euros incl. post.

  • High praise coming from you!
    Wipes tear from eye

Yes to panda. See that every black part meets a silver part? Also one of the reasons I want to get rid of the saddle with its black rails..

  • And strictly speaking need a black cassette. Have some already on my radar.
