  • These are a bargain. If I still lived in London I wouldn’t be outing them.

    I used to own a pair - which I sold for £450 in 2010!

  • Nice! Those speakers have aluminium housing don't they? Noticed the effects of linear phase?

I love a bit of vintage Technics, I've got a setup from 70s the days when everything had VU meters.

  • VU

Virtually useless, we were taught in audio principles

  • HNY hivemind!

After deciding to keep my spare deck and build a 2nd system, I'm now after a phono stage (MM).
    Nothing necessarily fancy or expensive.
    Anyone selling?

  • I’ve got a 10-yr-old AV receiver that is playing up - turns on fine then after a few seconds starts switching on and off and going to random menu options with the front panel buttons unresponsive. Any ideas?

  • Any interest from the forum in a Schiit Saga+ tube preamp?

  • Yep, the speakers are absolute beasts. Sounds lovely(running off the tv speakers previously).
Just need to hook the tv and we’re all set.

    I’ve got a Trichord Dino available, if you’re interested? I think it’s a Mk.2.

Not sure where your fancy/expensive thresholds start, but it’s a great phono stage.

  • Just out of interest, how much?

It's probably way more capable than I need in any case (plus those Dip 1-4 settings have got me very confused).

  • I might be interested in the dino if Eagle isn’t

  • I took a punt on upgrading the phono stage in my system from the one built in to the preamp and I was really happy with the result. Bought it on Amazon so I could return it easily if it didn’t make an improvement but that’s definitely not happening.

  • I was actually thinking about picking up the little brother s2 - glad to hear you're enjoying it.

  • Sorry! Forgot to get back to you.

They seem to go for about £170 used, could probably do it for £120 posted?

The dip switches are fiddly, but you never have to worry about them again once they’re done. They’re easy enough to set, providing the specs for your cartridge are available.

I’ve had it for a couple of years and loved it, it blew the Rega phono stage that came with my turntable out the water. It’s only being replaced by a new Dino Mk.3 with the Dino+ power supply that I got a good deal on. Honestly, there’s not much difference that I can discern.

@Mr_Smyth - noted, thanks. I’ll let you know.

  • If the eagle doesn’t swoop then it would fit in with my plans as it will be for a high output moving coil so I need the variable input not fixed MM/MC
The addition of a never connected power supply would probably handle future cart and TT upgrades when I get to the ‘end game’ set up.

  • Thanks @rodan

    PM incoming.

  • Cool, what tubes does it use? Tube rolling time?

  • I have to admit I don’t know, I’ve never played with changing tubes despite having several bits of valve equipment. I do like running it with lots of gain from the phono stage and less on the power amplifier, it gets noticeably more psychedelic.

  • Does anyone have access to Vinyl Engine or HiFi Engine websites? I'm trying to get some English language Technics catalogues for 1977-1980.

  • I have a Vinyl Engine account. Let me know what you want and I'll take a look

  • That's a 1/4" headphone output on the deck isn't it? Either way, just an adapter lead to match the speaker aux input. Seems a lot of smaller powered speakers are 3.5mm input eg my audio pro:-

  • I know it's four months on, did you get anything? I've got a freecycle receiver/amp combo if you'd like it. Silver too!

Untested, but free to do as you want with it.

    Edit: link would help...

  • Hi there. I'd like a little advice if you have a moment, audiophiles. I want to stream via bluetooth or wifi, my iphone or Macbook Pro through my old but excellent Cambridge Audio p70 amp. I've got some Tannoy R1s and a Goldring Lenco turntable and this and the cd player sound great. But, I've tried to use a cheap Logitech Blutooth DAC but can't make it work with the amp. My question is what do I need to be able to connect and stream to this amp via Bluetooth or Wifi - would something like this work? https://www.richersounds.com/wiim-pro-plus-black.html or this https://soundnews.net/sources/dacs/topping-e30-dac-review-entry-level-overachiever/ or this https://www.richersounds.com/tangent-dac-ii-black.html

  • I have a tangent CD player same size which is why the tangent one is there.

  • Wiim every day.
