  • Thanks for this. If you’ve replaced this many things and straightforward is still how you see it - had to be worth a go.

  • Never fixed any consumer electronics before that. Just take photos as you take it apart. It’s pretty straightforward inside. A lot of coffee stuff is a lot less magical once the covers come off!

  • As others have said it doesnt matter. Concentrate on flavour rather than investigating the puck. If it makes cleanup messy and annoying you can get a puck screen which can help, but be warned it will make your shots run slower which can throw off your dial. Lance Hedrick just did a great video on puck screens

  • For a Gaggia? Pm me if so. Got one here attached to a 58mm Gaggia portafilter that I used for setting the opv to 10 bar static when I dabbled in Gaggias.

  • Oh! Yes please! I'll PM you, thanks!

  • Ooh, please can I be incredibly cheeky and get in line to borrow too after @allsop?

  • Yes if @allsop doesn't mind passing it on to you to save posting back to me for me to then post on to you?

Does a fiver per loan sound reasonable gents? @allsop @Ptown will include a roll of PTFE tape with it to ensure no leaks at the joins for optimal OPV modding!

  • Sounds good to me on both counts. I'll drop you a PM with my address etc (and @Ptown, do you mind sending me your address when you have a moment?)

  • Sounds fair to me! I'll pm to sort details.

  • I’m looking for a new grinder.

I’ve got a gaggia classic and an aeropress. Mainly drink espresso.

I’m considering the niche but are there other options?

  • What have you got at the moment? I use a mazzer mini e with my pavoni and before that I had a classic. Faultless setup tbh!

  • Gaggia MDF. As a grinder it does the job. But it’s annoying with the doser

  • Entry level: Sage Smart Grinder Pro
    Next price bracket up: Niche

  • Overall I'm really happy with mine for the price. If I were to lose it tomorrow I'd buy another without thinking about it. It's works better than others I have used that cost several times the price.

Couldn't be arsed to send it back with so much nonsense to sort out before the holidays. Started using it when I got back from Christmas family fun and it works great.

Lid rattles a tiny bit when it hits boiling point but it doesn't rattle at all whilst I'm pouring so it's turned out to be a none issue. Cheers.

  • Good to know. ;)

FWIW, I'm absolutely terrible at things like this and I managed to take it apart to replace the spindle gear and put it back together again. And it now works.

  • What are people's preferred options for a more than 1-cup travel setup? Currently leaning towards just using a French press as anything else will likely require some sort of server to brew into before splitting into cups.

Seems silly to pick up something like the giant Aeropress for a few times per year. V60 will require bringing something else to brew into, Clever Dripper isn't big enough, Chemex is a bit delicate to be chucking in a backback for the weekend.

Hoffman just did a grinder round up and yes, there are many options

  • Damn. £120 for a motor.

Don’t suppose anyone knows if it’s a generic mounting or something that I can get else where?

  • Literally almost doubled tripled in price :(
    Was £60ish £43.88 when I bought mine.

  • I’ve got to replace a gear pump on the Sanremo Opera in the shop. I’ve done 2 of the 3 previously, they were about £350 a couple of years ago. £900 now. Fortunately there’s a repair kit available which has also tripled in price to £180.

  • Think of the warm glow of sovereignty though.

  • ...as you sip on your pint of wine...

  • Maybe french press + cloth filter v60?

  • I’m going to say something controversial.

I’m enjoying the coffee out of the rok I bought off here than the exact same coffee out of my gaggia classic.
