Ah good job

You’ve also sent me down a rabbit hole.
Might try and replicate this

Do you know if you're getting the lite version?
I didn't see if it's available yet -
• #80
Just reading the article linked from 2 years ago they ship 3 million f91w a year. Blimey, I wonder how many they ship now?
Makes me feel proud I've got one :), oh, and one of their cheap quartz analogue too.

That has lasted well. I seem to smash the screen on mine every year or so. my current one has a cracked screen but isn't letting in water yet.
It stays on my wrist 24/7 -

Looks like SKX Mod are working on a full metal case for the f91 ! https://old.reddit.com/r/casioroyale/comments/176t6be/classic_reimagined_f91a158a168/

• #83
...so an A168 then?! Sure I am missing something
-
• #84
Is the 168 actually a metal case?
-
• #85
a replacement case for the f91
What would you like to see?
-
• #86
It's the same price as a F-91W, and includes a stainless band, so it has to be plated plastic like they've been doing for ages already, right?
A metal case on a digital watch is either vintage or high end, innit?

A168 is chrome plated resin. You’d need to go back to the 80s for decent steel casios like the Casio Marlin H101.
The new A1000 looks good but is apparently made of cheese.

Looks like there’s a reissue of the casiotron coming https://www.g-central.com/casio-to-release-the-trn-50-in-2024-for-the-50th-anniversary-of-its-first-wristwatch-the-casiotron-qw02/

Awesome. I think a Pencil looks like a great option cheers
-
• #90
I'd love that if it was square...and plastic
-
• #91
And not limited edition and 500 euro
-

Pencil
Was that autocorrect, or didn't you notice it's Pinecil?
... And just to bring this whole digression back a bit more on topic, those guys also make an inexpensive open source smartwatch, which is pretty nifty: https://wiki.pine64.org/index.php/PineTime

It was a complete brain fart although I like the typo.
Ah yeah I saw that smartwatch when browsing all the f91w smartwatch upgrades/conversions.

In hindsight, I would name this thread: watch out for the rabbit holes
-
• #95
Definitely, and more interesting than heaven knows how many pages of the "other watch thread"

I want to be able to buy something like this, only in a non horribly expensive form.

In other news, my $9 smartwatch refused to charge after being forgotten for a couple of weeks... After tearing it apart, found 0V on the battery, nice battery management there. After sniffing around the web, it turns out that any ambition of installing custom firmware is forlorn...
Although if you happen to have one of the handful of models which have successfully been hacked, and which also has a ROM available, the good news is that you might be able to flash it via Bluetooth, rather than having to crack it open to expose data IO.

I guess this is fake / scam?

One of the two. That watch came out in 2010.

Hell yeah, that's a four figure watch, no longer available new.
I hate those fucken trash sites... They're usually a bit more plausible than that, but always too good to be true. Once you've seen a couple they're easy enough to recognise; they have this auto-generated quality. Although I have found that sometimes it's a good way to find obscure pictures of something.
Here's another one I found just by doing an image search of that pic: https://www.msejkr.top/products.aspx?cname=seiko+atomic+watch&cid=144
Notice they're all around the same silly price. Sometimes they'll be trying to sell you something obviously vintage as if it's new, too. If Google was still worth a damn, they'd be using AI to filter out such results, or at least put them last... But Google is the textbook example of enshittification.
Actually this is weird - all the results for that image are trash scam sites.
I mentioned the Sensor Watch upthread. Great for sensor projects. It seems like with most of these bigger mods that battery life suffers too much.
