  • Yea. No zink undercoat. I am testing what's durable. Maybe it's shit

  • Please say you have a shotblasting cabinet too.

  • Let your daughter whack it around the workshop to find out.

    That's true dynamic testing

  • I am bringing it to Tenerife second week of Jan and letting the airport baggage handlers and volcanic rocks of mount Teide do the testing

  • Not yet. But hopefully during 2024 i will be able to acquire one.

Frame and rear triangle are blasted "professionally" and forks are sanded and brushed by me... We will see if there's a difference in durability

  • fresh new Xmas bicycle jewellery fitted this morning.
    perfect.

  • Excellent stuff 🥰

    Thanks for sharing

  • thanks for designing and making them, they're really well made and aesthetically pleasing.
I need to get some fancier bolts now to do them justice.

  • Thanks man. I am considering selling them with some nice pan head torx machine screws. I normally like internal hex because button head internal hex tend to round. But if you want to use washers you can't use regular internal hex and need the button head/ pan head style screws. And then I just think Torx last longer

  • Not fitted yet, but I too was a good boy this year.

  • @SoYaap is losing the race to complete his folding AWOL before I do!

  • Oh, yes.
Remind me: does it fold or separate in two?

  • Becomes two..

  • Some progress... But also classic bike building issues. I was going to use a 11-36t cassette of my dad's old bike with this XO rear mech I had laying around. It's 9sp but should work with 10sp bar end shifters... What I had not thought about is that it's max 34t and I can't get it to shift properly. So that's not going to work. Instead I am going to use an 11sp friction shifter and a 10sp XT rear mech with a goat link so I can use a 11-46t cassette instead (which is brand new in the parts bin). Took some tinkering to get to that point. Love a parts bin conundrum challenge though.
Had to bring the bike home as I am pressed for time getting this bike ready for going to Tenerife with my family Jan 7. Pressed for time because I am starting a fucking dope 650b project on Jan 2. Can't wait to share more of that.

Edit: Tenerife is probably 11-46t terrain anyway

  • Definitely looks like 46 territory.

    Nice.

    Have fun in Tenerife!

  • Thanks @Tijs.. I am excited as I've never been to the canary islands.

The sun will look good on the AWOL

  • If you do end up on tarmac the tf-38 is an amazing road. Also, queso asado con miel de palma. You'll thank me later.

  • I have been thinking about bringing the road bike. As I won't have infinite amounts of time for riding. We are going with my parents as a last journey with my dad. (His Parkinsons is getting worse and dementia has started creeping in)

Anyways, the road bike would allow me to cover more of the island but the whole point of bringing the AWOL was proof of concept as I am thinking about offering a folding off road frame.

  • I may have mentioned it to you before but my partner teaches ballet classes for Parkinson's sufferers. The attendees are not all women with dance backgrounds, it's very mixed. Anyway there is something about the music and following steps that somehow sidesteps some of the symptoms. People who can't stand unaided are able to dance on their feet without help etc.
Maybe something to look into for your father. He may enjoy it or find it benefits his health.
She works for English National Ballet but I'm sure there are other resources online or locally.
    Maybe this

  • Thanks. I am not its helpful for his situation. He has been very fortunate compared to others suffering from Parkinsons. He is still able to walk and talk. His issues is more that the medicine side effects causes hallucinations and now dementia. It's painful to watch the smartest and most proper human being I know make coffee with water that is already coffee.

  • Just bring the one bike that can do the most, for sure. And more importantly have a lovely time with your Dad.

  • <3

Maybe it will be bring the bike that's working and I am having all kinds of troubles getting the AWOL riding 🤩

  • Happy new year!
