Fair enough. I also like them inboard of the grips. Gives a nice "on the hoods" position. And if in the right spot between the grip and brake lever, you can brake from the bar ends a bit. Also less likely to catch brush and trees off road when they're inboard.
I do still like them out on the ends though. Outside is nice for climbing on trail, or long standing climbs anywhere.

Personally I prefer barends on the inside of the grip - I don’t get along with them on the outside anymore unless the bars are really narrow
