Fair enough. I also like them inboard of the grips. Gives a nice "on the hoods" position. And if in the right spot between the grip and brake lever, you can brake from the bar ends a bit. Also less likely to catch brush and trees off road when they're inboard.
I do still like them out on the ends though. Outside is nice for climbing on trail, or long standing climbs anywhere.
Indeed. Ergon are wonderful, especially the ones with the little nubby bar ends. Others that are worth a try: Oury with bar ends like Cane Creek, or super fat ESI or similar foam grips also with bar ends like Cane Creek.
TLDR: Get grips that are nice to grab, and add good bar ends.
