  • It should be in the terms and conditions of sale of the gift card. There should be a time period where you can cancel the contract, return the card and get a refund.

I guess it's up to planet x if you have gone past that period.

  • Consumer rights act 2015 which is the relevant business to consumer legislation dosnt limit retailers rights here - basically planet X are well within their rights to refuse you a refund.

This means their ts and cs take precedent.

I've checked their website for their ts and cs and there doesn't appear to be anything specifically here. I would recommend (I) checking their policy carefully to see if I've missed anything (ii) letting them know their terms and conditions are silent and in the absence of that they owe you a refund. In most cases it's just a case of blustering through as they don't have a legal team.

  • Thanks for the advice, I’ll have a proper look tomorrow morning.

  • Quick look at planet x appears that they give you 30 days to return the gift card for a refund.

Distance Selling parts of the CSA are still applicable, I reckon - 7 days from receipt to cancel, without needing to provide a reason.

Arguably, if the vouchers can't be used because there is nothing worth buying, then they are not fit for purpose, and can be returned within 30 days of receipt. (Good luck getting money back on that, though.)

  • Worst case scenario, buy something you can sell on. They may not be around much longer and if they shut their doors, the £100 gift card becomes worth £0
