Cleaned out the mudguard, big clean with bike cleaner, then degreaser, then isopropyl. Sneaked the cable through, tucked it under the first stay bridge and topped up with gorilla tape all the way down.
Unfortunately, it's not quite long enough to meet the light at the front (on a rack) so I've got some cables and connectors coming from SJS.
With my build I went with VO mudguards under the misapprehension that they had a channel for dynamo cable. In the end I did similar to you, except we used a bead of silicone sealant to embed the cable, instead of tape.
