  • How about a Datsun stagea? What are the import prices like?

  • Another five years and I could import Percy- but the modifications would be A Problem.

  • I'm also looking at this with some interest. Absolutely love it.

  • It’s super cool

  • A Monte Carlo yellow 900 cab is on my must own list. Sadly they're either fantastically rotten or fantastically expensive here.

Definitely buy it, you might never get the chance again

  • Now that is a feel good car. Cruise around, relaxed, smiling... Can't think of many reasons not to purchase if you have the opportunity!

  • I've always loved them and this one seems to have been very well looked after and isn't very expensive. There's another very similar one driving around over the bridge from us that always catches my eye. See how we go!

  • What’s wrong with the Noble?

  • No idea. The engine is out of a noble is all I know. Seemed a very expensive way to go, but thought about is and it is actually a cheap way to upgrade the X type. Both engines are based on the ford 3.0v6 which ford bought from Porsche. Then cosworth developed the heads for ford and Jag as the heads are different.

The Jag has many integrated modules but the Jag ECU is different to the ford one and is modifyable. So can run the noble engine management. Yet keep abs, and all the other bits to keep the car legal.

Wonder if the engine is from a noble or one built by the South African company that built the engines for Noble. But niether is going to be cheap.

Am a member of several X type groups and saw this conversion.

The removal of the 4x4 trans was interesting to me.

  • Look at the Classic car mag write up of what to look at. Also Jono should be able to give you advice

  • Having a look at the car sales ad it looks to be genuine. And well looked after. I would inspect the door jambs carefully as the driver's side looks like it's been repainted. But could just be the photos. But if it has all the maintenance records then it's probably ok as a everyday drivable classic. The engines are pretty rock solid. The only thing would be availability of any plastic or rubber hoses etc. may need a sympathetic mechanic that's willing to hunt down parts for you.

  • You buy it! Seems like a great price, and I do love it, but I really fancy the Forester. That's if it didn't get wrecked in all the storms on the Gold Coast last night. I'll go and take a look at it this week.

  • Ha! If I was going Saab it'd have to be a coupe 900. Good luck with fozz. The storms have been mental, big clean ups everywhere.

  • Really like a pick up we saw today

  • Speaking of old cars... The w124 300e with the 24 valve motor. How would you rate as an everyday drivable "classic"? Might have an opportunity for a low mileage one (100,000).

  • I've never driven one. But when I was at uni one of my mates got his mums old estate.

It was old and high mileage even then. There was a cool solid tank-like comfort. And it was great for long drives up and down the M4.

The only thing I'd question is whether it's really worth owning that sort of classic. Maybe they were too contemporary when I was last in the, but I'd have thought you'd want something a bit more interesting.

  • Aren’t the wiring looms on those the weak link?

  • Not on the 300-24. On the later 4v (320 etc) cars it's a big issue unless it's been replaced.

They are great cars and the 300-24 engine is brilliant. Much more lively than the 12V cars and the W124 is just a lovely car in general and still very usable for something so old. They feel special and proper in a way that modern E-classes don't.

Hopefully it's the 4-speed as there was an option of a 5-speed 'box that isn't well regarded. Rust is really the major concern, I'd want to have a good look underneath, but otherwise they're super tough cars with lots of good knowledge out htere.

Definitely an element of that. It's not my first choice but it does seem more practical and useable than my normal choices of unloved French cars!

I'd happily drive the kids in a 1992 300e, not so much in a '91 205 Si... The other car I was looking at. Tin foil basically, but so lively and fun to drive.

  • come on! join the luffguss forester owners club!
