  • can you imagine the chat i will bring 🔥🔥🔥

  • Luckily the dad mobile has three rows of seats ;-)

  • Signed up 👍 should be fun

  • for those that have done it before, what did you do (or wouldn't you do) for accommodation?
there are 8 of us in our party heading up there from a couple of local groups

  • Last time I did it, group of 6, we got a Airbnb house about 30 minutes away. Lots of nice villages etc about.

  • I’ve camped out the night before in a spot about 30 mins drive away from the start a couple of times before.

Works out ok if you don’t mind sleeping out before a ride.

  • that would depend heavily on the weather I guess! 🙃
I'm a well seasoned camper so I'd likely opt for this.
the on site camping is fully booked already so would have to look further afield (pun intended)

Airbnb would probably be the safest bet, but also have some people talking about hiring a 4 berth camper.

  • I stayed in a hotel in Hexham....it is a bit of a trek on the morning of tbf but did work.

  • Did you drive to the event location from Hexham? Just wondering if there's on-site parking

  • Yeah, its quite a long drive tbf but yeah plenty of parking....

  • Nice one, thanks!

  • 3 of us booked an Air BnB from Friday to Monday. Looks about 40 mins drive away.

I'm not convinced the current enthusiasm for a Monday ride will be as strong come April 21st...

  • Anyone want entry to 200km? Don’t know if I can change name details, but if I’d only get £60 refunded at this point than maybe someone else would wanna save the cash, pay me that money, and just ride under a different name and I’ll swap all the details that I can

  • just downloaded the route. couple of spicy looking climbs.
fingers crossed for a couple of dry weeks now 🫣
hope everyone's training is going ok?

  • I assume this is sorted? If not I could be interested

  • Anyone looking for a 200k entry? Some life stuff has come up meaning I unfortunately have to give it a miss this year.

  • how did everyone get on today?
me and my group made the call to do the 135 rather thank the full 200, but thoroughly enjoyed it.
a cracking day out and super lucky with the weather, even if it was a bit chilly out first thing.

kielder is a stunning place to ride, lovely bit of uk grav, a bit of #sfab in places but not as much as expected considering the weather lately.

  • I just managed the 200. It was touch and go at the time cut, and the last 50km was pretty draining, but I finished just before 9pm by which time it was getting really quite dark! A good day out though.

  • awesome! big congrats on doing the whole thing.
I think a large part of the reason we took the diversion was so that we could enjoy a beer or two while the sun was still shining.

  • I throughly enjoyed it this year.

I camped in Kielder Campsite with a friend. Wondered why it was so cold at night to wake to frozen water bottles and a frozen up derailleur on my bike. Thankfully it warmed up pretty fast and the weather stayed good all day.

We did the full 200 and my legs only shit the bed for a little bit in the last 20 so I’m happy with that.

  • Is it both fun and hard at the same time, or is one of those routes where it alternates between the two? I like the idea of it. Also could it be done on a non-event day? ie do they close roads or anything?

  • I’d say it’s a decent challenge but if you’re used to riding that distance on the road then less so.

The route changes slightly each year but it’s normally all on forestry tracks, so you could ride it whenever you like. Kielder is a pretty good place to stay if you want to go and ride gravel. There is a great campsite and loads of holiday cottages around. Been meaning to organise a summer trip there with friends.
