  • So the lid on yours isn't like this?

  • I like the look of both those flair options.

  • I checked with my wife and she is sure mine did this when it was new as well. It doesn't any more after 6-9 month of use. I'm sure an engineer could probably explain that, as a non expert I'm assuming it's due to the metal expanding and contracting under heating.

I looked at Amazon reviews and there are a handful that mention the lid being a bit loose and rattly - 7 of 608 reviews, plus our 2 are experiences. Perhaps that is within their QA tolerances and we all got duds, or perhaps they're just designed that way for reasons.

Overall I'm really happy with mine for the price. If I were to lose it tomorrow I'd buy another without thinking about it. It's works better than others I have used that cost several times the price.

  • Anyone with Brisbane coffee recomendations? Would be nice to find somewhere to pick up some properly light roast coffee for my travels

  • I love Hario's stuff for the most part

I remember when you could get them free with a Wiggle order, those were the days.

  • You can't get distilled water anywhere here

De-ionised water is the same thing, if that helps. I don't know where 'here' is but it's still used here for ironing, automotive purposes etc.

All this water chat reminds me that I want to try Malvern water in my espresso machine. I'm not talking about the bottled water, but the free spring water which pops up at public wells in various places on and around the hills. It's supposed to be very pure and the locals tell me it's great for ironing, so I figure it would be good for espresso.

  • Might taste a bit flat

  • If your interested I have one I am willing to move on

  • I'm in Ireland. Some chemists stock it but its expensive. The zero water filter is probably the way to go for me.

  • Hope it's okay here, but thouht I'd offer before eBay.

I'm sticking with the 078S so selling my niche zero in white.

Maybe 15 months old, mainly used for 1/2 shots a day at home.

Can't find the box but I've got the brush/socket.

eBay is around 420 so does 380 shipped sound fair?

    Now sold

  • I’m interested…

  • I'll dig it out.
Got the original box, spare seal, scoop/tamp thing that came with it.

I'll send pics later this week once I've found all the bits.

  • What’s superior about the Timemore?

  • The main difference, is the soft start/quieter running.

I'd ideally keep both - only so much counter space

  • Quick one - What's the go-to beginner hand grinder?

  • Edit: have read up thread

  • Every time I take a few days away from this thread a niche comes up for sale!

Has anyone done or considered the gaggiuno mod?

I honestly find with my standard coffee it makes really nice espresso/long black/flat white, but a second one is always tricky - and the temp control, ability to deal with lighter roasts, profiling and better steam is appealing for £150 for all the bits…

  • I'm really tempted, but already have the PID, so would feel like a waste to strip that out when I'm perfectly happy with my shots at the moment

  • How easy is it to mod the gaggia classic. Mines nearly out of warranty so tempted to do the pressure spring mod and anything else that’s suggested

  • If you can assemble a bike you can mod a gaggia classic.

  • From my understanding unless you’re keen to get properly involved just doing some basic mods like PID will get you significant benefits without much ballache. But the gaggiuno is definitely much more involved.

  • Yeah I’ve watched quite a few videos, I feel mechanically capable with the kits that can be bought now, watching the videos from a year ago where one would have to build them component by component, not so much…

  • Ha- I also have a Niche for sale, but it’s in Singapore

  • I’ve had to pull a bit of my classic apart before so I think I could cope with it.
