  • Think I'm going to shift my Brompton, S2L converted to SS. Dura Ace cranks, carbon bars, almost new Conti Urban Contacts. Any interest (possibly the worst timing mind)?

    @theflatboy was interested so has first dibs but that was some time ago.

  • Thinking about electric Bromptons- I really love the space that I have in my Borough large bag (25 litres) as I’m regularly away for 2 nights on my Brompton.

    I guess there’s no way around the loss of luggage space on the official electric Brompton?

  • Care to elaborate? I mean, I can imagine one being redundant, but I've thought about getting a second. Reckon it'd make the perfect, anybody-at-home-can-use-when-they-need-it-bike, as I have an army of kids at home and they're all different heights/ages - but all of them (minus the toddler) can get over and ride the Brompton.

  • I had a 2 speed and a 6 speed, realised both were wrong LOL and went 3 speed with discs eventually. Sharing wise I share it with my partner and we never overlap usually.

  • Fair play. I'm glad I went with a 6 and not 3 - more maintenance, bulk and headache indeed, but I moved to a hilly area (relative to East London, innit?). I'm even considering an electric as the second, just makes it that bit more accessible.

  • I've tried to justify 2.

    My current justification is 'winter' (3speed) and 'summer' (4/no mudguards). There hasn't been an occassion when both have been used at the same time, but both have been used on the same day.

    Tenous I know.

  • Is there a forum-tested, if not approved, manufacturer of titanium disc forks and triangles?

  • Struggling to figure out what exactly is going on there.

  • Seems they only do Ti rim brake or steel disc, unless I’m missing something obvious?

  • The weight difference between Ti and Kinetics steel is enough that I’d like to find a Ti solution (110lbs partner would have to lift bike above head-height several times a day).

  • I'm trying to make sense of it too, but am failing.

  • Some kind of homemade rack system. Also homemade lock carrier on the back of the seat.

  • In too deep, but then again when you (were) trading/improving them, this is different from just owning them

  • Think it's time to swap the BB and get a new chainring for the Brommie. Noticed that mine doesn't run 'true'. Could just be the bolts or some BB play. Any recommendations or just stick to the Brompton official stuff? I still have a Shimano square taper BB somewhere that's got the right dimensions, but don't think it'll be any better than the Brompton one other than a small cost saving?

  • Un26 don’t have the best longevity. UN300, or UN52 if you can find it, are a better choice. If you have the original Brompton crankset you’ll want a JIS taper.

  • Oh it's a JIS? I've not removed mine before to check. It's a 2015 model and I normally buy the standard chain rings and . I do remember having a FAG bb that had to be replaced due to a recall many years ago. Not checked what's fitted since. I've got an old crank somewhere so will measure internally to double-check. Cheers.
