Thanks for answering - very kind. Yeah, maybe I'm overthinking the issue. I was thinking I'd screw in countersunk screws to the wood, straight through into the brick. But those would need to be crazy long screws, so I think L brackets are going to work better. Potentially I could hide some of the L bracket under the wood itself ...
Haha, you poor thing! Good luck with the trains. It's madness here this morning in Derbyshire - loads of trees down on the roads this morning. I got kiddo to nursery fine, but really struggled coming back. 3 of 4 potential routes back were completely blocked.
