Thanks for answering - very kind. Yeah, maybe I'm overthinking the issue. I was thinking I'd screw in countersunk screws to the wood, straight through into the brick. But those would need to be crazy long screws, so I think L brackets are going to work better. Potentially I could hide some of the L bracket under the wood itself ...
I would like to buy something that I can mount onto bricks (the external wall of my house) on one side, and an auto latch on the other side. It needs to push the auto latch off the wall by 110mm, and to mount the auto latch I have it needs to be 60 x 70 mm. For various reasons I don't want to do the normal thing of buying a whole massive post to fix the auto latch to.
I had been thinking I'd want some treated wood for this, but trying to look for somewhere I can buy something close to that measurement either to collect in person (in Derbyshire) or order online is looking tricky so far.
So 2 questions ...
Is there a good place to buy custom cuts of treated wood online that isn't gonna cost me circa £40 for what I feel should be a small bit of wood?
Is there a better choice of material for the application that I haven't thought of?
