Solid plan. Another thing I wanted but couldn’t get done was having the dwarf wall brought forward to line up with the bottom of the velux.

how much did you pay for your MVHR?

Unclear right now… the system was designed, and the parts supplied at trade price, by a friend who’s also supplying and installing our ASHP system. It’s being installed ah-hoc, partly by his technicians and partly by our builder.
It’ll definitely end up significantly cheaper than it ought to be… otherwise we wouldn’t have been able to afford it.

There are occasional deals on eBay. We got an unused Zehnder 350 for £500 as they ordered the wrong-sided variant for an industrial job and needed it gone.

I actually back having the dwarf wall further away from bottom edge of Velux. There’s still shitloads of space in the eaves for storage, the top of the Velux clears my head when I walk under it, and there’s more ‘wall’ space under the window.

Bathroom floors and walls that will be tiled, we'll use moisture board but I assume we need to waterproof line it as well? Anyone got any useful links for this kind of stuff?

Dang. Floors turned out lovely. Thank you for all the great advice. Thanks for mentioning by name what finish you used too. There’s a lot of choice even in a single product line.
That edging sander should be incorporated into gym classes. Fuuuuck. Also blisters and the mask was a great shout. Only one bag exploded in a giant dust storm and turning that sander around in tight corners was a pain. Quite good fun tho. It was a small room. Would sand again. Looks at beige carpet in the bedroom….
Thanks so much for sharing your lived experiences :)

Well done! Bloody hard work, but satisfying. You just clear coated?

FYI, if that's a CO monitor to the left of the fireplace, it should be higher (since CO is lighter than O2)

Not sure that's practically true is it?
My understanding is it's similar and while technically lighter dispurses in the air so as long as it's at a similar height it'll be fine.

GRP roof done, powdercoated edge trims on, windows going in tomorrow, loft nearly watertight and ready for scaffolding to come down. A couple of weeks behind schedule.
Sewerage going in and digging begun on the ground floor; lowering the floor level by ~450mm and making space for 180mm of PIR insulation plus slab with wet UFH. Can’t wait to blitz the slab and walls in the new year…

Looks so good! You must be chuffed.
-
• #8718
I hope I’ll be chuffed when the scaff comes down and I can actually see it! Currently impossible to know how it’ll look from ground level, and not enough space up on the boards to take any meaningful photos.
One thing I’m already kinda doubting is the decision to spec 100mm deep aluminium roof edge trim; I did this as the combined width of the window trim and Velfac window frame is ~100mm, so was aiming for vIsUaL hArMoNy but would have made it thinner if I was doing it again I reckon.

I’m sure it’ll make sense once it’s all done. Please spam.

First place, cowboy builder did bathroom and kitchen (as discussed on here), complete anxiety with the whole flat and it makes me want to move. I half fear underneath all my tiles is damp mouldy shit from where he created leaks doing the work. I get the odd woodlouse to keep me company
Taken the shower kick plate off and I've got some damp. Im hoping it is coming front the shower as pictured rather than something hidden behind the tiles.
Would you just try get out all the old sealant on the outside and redo it?

Is there pipework on the wall you can see mould?
It looks like the silicone is pealing around the edges already so could could easily cause moisture to get through. Do you have photos of the silicone within the shower too?
I would defo be taking all that silicone off an redoing it anyway as its peeling quite a bit. It often peels if it has been spread to thin / to much pressure on it when smoothing out.
I would also leave that kick plate off for a bit to give it some air, give the mould a good spray of some mould remover too, if you have a dehumidifier pop that in there for a few days.
EDIT: The more I look at that picture the more I think I can see drips just underneath the front of the tray, it could be findings its way within the shower OR it might also be coming through the screen bar thing attached to the wall as there looks to be gaps (it should be fully sealed)

gone elsewhere for xmas (can't currently take pics) but don't think there are any pipes there.
the screen bar thing on the inside isn't sealed, but it is sealed on the outside. I think it might be getting in there on the inside and finding its way out. The drain seal in the shower tray is coming away a bit too

I would take all the silicone off and redo it, I can see a gap on the outside where the silicone won’t create a seal, unless it’s sealed behind the screen bar.

Thanks.
Finished with two coats of Bona Mega One - the extra matt finish with a wipe down afterwards by hand with 200 grit dry paper. The floor is still grippy enough for lovely handstands in the corner. It feels like raw wood on bare feet.
They’re UK04, the perfect width for the space. The left edge of the left Velux lines up with the landing return stud wall, so if we box it in by creating a storage space then it’ll be the same distance as the right Velux is from the chimney stack.
They are located a bit high up to take advantage of the top-hung opening mechanism, but I wanted the extra ‘wall’ space underneath them. Too late to reposition now anyway.
