• i got a new carbon wheelset and I'm trying to put on a used pair of CX tyres that have always worked well on another wheelset.

the back tyre didn't work first time, i had to put an extra wrap of tape on it and now it seems to have seated on the rim. i haven't put sealant in it yet so it isn't holding air for long but i think it will be ok.

for the front, i thought i'd just go straight in an add a second layer of tape. i'm just using a track pump and i can only get both beads mounted about half way round and they don't want to budge past that.

next i decided to put in an inner tube in the hope of getting one of the beads mounted all the way round to then have a better chance of mounting both sides (once i've taken out the inner tube) but i've pumped it up to 60psi (i think max for the rim is 55) and the tyre is hard but wonky - it hasn't mounted the bead properly on either side.

what should i try next? remove the layer of tape that may not have been necessary in the first place? i thought of adding sealant and trying again but i'd be surprised if sealant will push it onto the bead if an inner tube can't.
