    1. Fanfic author writes his own "sequel" to Lord of the Rings, planning for it to become a whole series of books.
    2. Amazon release "The Rings of Power" in collaboration with the Tolkien estate.
    3. Fanfic author sues the Tolkien estate because he thinks the show infringes "his" copyright.
    4. Idiot not only loses court battle, but is then forced to destroy all copies of his book and banned from writing any more in the series.

    I'm sure @Oliver Schick can quote something appropriate from the original books.

    Hunner percent he’d have got away with it, sold enough to get by on and been popular enough to be knee deep in hairy footed clunge at Comic-Con all while not remotely registering on the Tolkien estate’s radar if he hadn’t tried to sue them.

    I hope Chuck Tingle is busy writing a book based on all this. "Slapped in the ring by the real Lords of my Ring" or similar.
