Don't expect anything better from him. He's a troll.

I mean, say what you really think

Bloody hell. That's insane.

Love how they threw in a sprinkling of Holocaust revisionism to spice up their call for genocide.

A dangerously unhinged ideologue.
It’s remarkable that the article doesn’t mention any reaction or responses. You would hope there would be widespread condemnation. Or am I naive?

Shows how unhinged Israel and it's leadership are.
How this isn't classed as terrorism, I don't know.

FFS, there are 219 comments, plus reactions in other papers if you've got the initiative to google the guy's name.
A lot of this thread is childish nonsense posted by people who need to have their hand held just to read the fucking papers.

I can understand why Israelis who oppose the way this war is being conducted aren’t rushing to put their heads above the parapet. Remembering the weeks and months after 9/11, a large part of the US remained irrationally fearful for their lives and another larger part was out for blood. Warmongers were happy to oblige, while anyone who opposed them had their lives completely upended. Theres undoubtedly Israelis living traumatised by the expectation that Hamas will strike again, and others who have stopped giving a fck and want to brutalise whoever they can to achieve catharsis and send their neighbours a message.
Also, another big issue with the way modern media reports things is that, no matter the place and no matter the issue, they always seem to find a fool with a stupid opinion that they then feature, knowing busy people and other fools will readily extrapolate “here’s what the deputy mayor of Irrelevantville has to say” to “this is what they’re actually thinking inside X country’s government and society”.

Firstly, the writer is from a local council. He doesn't represent Israel or its leadership.
Secondly, all he's done is write something. He hasn't actually removed people from Gaza.
Thirdly, Israel is a sovereign state. People who fight on behalf of a sovereign state are soldiers, not terrorists. This is an important distinction, explained in dictionaries. If you ignore it, perhaps declaring a 'war on terror', you get in a muddle and find yourself giving terrorists equal status with soldiers. When you catch the terrorists they can then claim to be POWs, not criminals.

Not much of a muddle, to be frank. Just refuse to do it, against prior laws and reason, and hold out until people forget.
No one’s been punished for torturing people at Guantanamo Bay and other black sites, without ever having put them in front of a judge, or formally charging them, or even acknowledging their detention.

But every lawyer and human rights person and journalist is familiar with the muddle, and nobody wants to look as stoopid as Bush next time around.

I agree but they’ve also learned that they could get away with it.
Over two months of killing people who mostly had nothing to do with the attack. Mass media is starting to slowly turn towards restraint, as are western governments, but the truth was apparent many weeks ago, they just refused to acknowledge it.

No shit Sherlock. The Israeli military always kills 10 or 20 Palestinians per dead Israeli. Anyone who is surprised hasn't been paying attention.

Way to miss the point.

They're also likely to lose jobs, face detention and in some cases have an angry mob at their door.

… but the article didn’t seek or report any reaction. That’s unusual. In UK media reactions to controversial political gaffs are often part of the story. The fact that here it isn’t could suggest these types of opinions/statements are either normal, or won’t have immediate and serious consequences for the Mayor (or both). I find that remarkable - a reflection of Israeli society maybe. That was the point you failed to grasp. Sorry if I wasn’t explicit enough for you.

Fuck off. Have some self awareness.

I see what you mean. It looks like they just transcribed the guy's words from a radio interview, with no attempt to flesh the piece out. A bit amateurish. The site design is just horrible, like something from last century, so maybe they don't have the money or talent to reach the editorial standards of mainstream papers?
It's not a paper I've read before. I just look at Haaretz and The Times of Israel. Haaretz is quite lefty - a comforting read which reminds you that some Israelis are compassionate and reasonable. FWIW it's said to be the the Israeli paper most trusted by Western journalists. I doubt they'd publish anything as savage as this.
-

Haaretz did publish the story. It's almost a word-for-word match with the Jerusalem Post article. Again with no mention of any condemnation or pushback.
To me (an idiot) it looks like there's currently little room in Israeli public life to counter genocidal rhetoric. This at a time of a huge military campaign and in the context of the completely asymmetric nature of the conflict.
For anyone concerned with avoiding genocide, that should be a massive red flag.

It makes me want to stop reading the papers altogether. It's too much. If I lived there I'd go completely mad. I can't see how it will end without getting much, much worse.

Caught the end of the media show on R4 yesterday and thought it interesting, they were saying on Israeli news coverage, it's basically still October 7th every day, replaying the attrocities committed, survivor and witness stories, injured soldier details and almost no reporting of the situation in Gaza and the level of destruction and casualties, which they said there is very little appetite to hear. They also discussed how controlled the foreign journalists are and how much that limits reporting and most likely delays international pressure.

"On 19 December 2023, between 2000 and 2300 hours, IDF reportedly surrounded and raided Al Awda building, also known as the “Annan building”, in Al Remal neighborhood, Gaza City, where three related families were sheltering in addition to Annan family. According to witness accounts circulated by media sources and Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor, while in control of the building and the civilians sheltering there, the IDF allegedly separated the men from the women and children, and then shot and killed at least 11 of the men, mostly aged in their late 20’s and early 30’s, in front of their family members. The IDF then allegedly ordered the women and children into a room, and either shot at them or threw a grenade into the room, reportedly seriously injuring some of them, including an infant and a child. OHCHR has confirmed the killings at Al Awdabuilding, although the details and circumstances of the killings are still under verification."
I thought you meant: you just need to scroll through the text you pasted, which in hindsight doesn't make sense, and was an odd interpretation of what you said.
Also scrolled through the link however and it didn't come up. Seems to be buried under alot of new stories.
