Looks like that is kind of true although the 7 will still get security updates to 2027

Yeah, from a bit more reading the differences between the two seem pretty minimal and none of the features that the 8 has that the 7 doesn't seem important to me (more AI, more features for photo editing etc).
I read one article that mentioned that the 7 will only be supported until 2025 and the 8 will be supported until 2030 which would sway me if accurate. Although my 4a is a few years old and seems to get updates still so not sure how believable the 7 only getting updates for another couple of years is.
I tend to keep my phones for as long as I can so wouldn't want to buy something that was made to be obsolete in a couple of years.
