I checked with my wife and she is sure mine did this when it was new as well. It doesn't any more after 6-9 month of use. I'm sure an engineer could probably explain that, as a non expert I'm assuming it's due to the metal expanding and contracting under heating.
I looked at Amazon reviews and there are a handful that mention the lid being a bit loose and rattly - 7 of 608 reviews, plus our 2 are experiences. Perhaps that is within their QA tolerances and we all got duds, or perhaps they're just designed that way for reasons.
Overall I'm really happy with mine for the price. If I were to lose it tomorrow I'd buy another without thinking about it. It's works better than others I have used that cost several times the price.

Hmm no, I just picked mine up and gave it a good shake and it's not rattling about then. Maybe return for another if it's not too much hassle?
