An IDF official says one of its soldiers saw the hostages emerging from a building without shirts on, holding a stick with a white cloth on it.

The soldier felt threatened and opened fire, declaring that the men were terrorists, the IDF official says.

I'll admit that I'm sure being in an active warzone substantially changes the meaning of "feeling threatened", but JFC. And what isn't being said, but if everyone is a terrorist then everyone is a justified target

When 5 year olds throwing stones at an invading armoured vehicle and body armoured soldiers then the soldiers shoot. That is feeling threatened too.
