I’ve started doing smith machine squats. I’m not used to squatting, I normally do leg press variations. But didn’t feel like it was really generating and muscle development.
My legs are wrecking already

You make it sound like you're typing that as you squat 😂
-
• #5504
Given how bad my typing usually is. I might as well 😀

Thanks everyone!
I don't like the smith machine, so will start working the other exercises into the next plan.

Definitely reaching that point now where I'd previously gave up - my legs are pretty tired/aching after Sunday. Having the last few days before with a bastard of a cold didn't help either. Did reach my squat PB of 60kg which was nice, albeit exhausting. Definitely need to work on my barbell row form

Nice! Rows are a weird one. I think a bit of momentum / body english is alright in a BB row but I know there are schools of thought that think not.

Tweaked my knee and have had a vomiting bug for the past few days. The thought of eating 3000 calories anytime soon fills me with dread haha. I guess that's my reward for hitting 2 plates on the squat.
Going to focus on hitting 1 pull up, even my negatives are shocking.

Or do Pendlay rows; taking the weight from the floor each rep means no be is possible. Humbling though

You can still use momentum to aid in a pendlay row.
Of course you can do it strict too, but they don't stop you using Body English.

If anyone is looking for a protein recommendation. DONT get this one. The hazelnut flavour is awful.

I tend to stick to either Bulk or myprotein

Bulk pure whey is the way to go for me. Buy 5kg at a time and then wait for a sale when you're running out.

We were getting Dorian Yates shadow whey which I like because they don’t put aspartame in anything, but my wife fancied a change.
There’s a hint of hazelnut with an after taste of ash tray.
-
• #5515
I just buy unflavoured whey and then add flavouring like chocolate powder or frozen berries/banana in a blender
-
• #5516
My wife won’t entertain that.

after taste of ash tray.
Sounds like a Sunday morning after a club sesh. Mmmmmm
Not sure why anyone wouldn't like that

Unflavoured with a banana, full fat milk and some peanut butter, delicious!

As I'm currently injured, left knee fucked. I'm doing mostly upper at the moment (can still do deadlift luckily) and it has me reevaluating which plan to follow.
Has anyone done 5/3/1 with Boring but big with good results? ideally I can use an app to track.
-

Yes I've done BBB. It is good, but from my experience (and what I've read of others), you really do want to be eating in a decent surplus while running it.
Idk about an app but there are good spreadsheets that function similarly to an app for a lot of 5/3/1 variants.

Yes, It was a god programme for me , got good results for a few cycles. As @zooeyzooey says, you'll need to be eating a lot and getting good recovery, not a programme to do on a cut. It can also be taxing if you're doing other exercise elsewhere.
I found that over time the volume wears and fatigues you. Once your 5x10 sets reach a decent percentage of your working max it can cumulatively fatigue you . Heavy squats then 5x10 deadlifts at ~70% can be a hard day... doing a day on day off schedule helped to mitigate
Possibly an ideas to swich to another 531 variant for a cycle or two if this happens .
I used a google sheet to track and calculate weights- liftvault has lots of them .

I ran it years ago. It worked, definitely put some size on.

More smith machine squats today. I managed 22.5kg on each side so that’s an improvement. The aim is two 20s on each side.

Squats are so productive for full body conditioning
Lol. I can bench a walrus.
