Whilst I agree that if your Welwyn velodrome bargain doesn't work out for you, it should be offered back to the group at a reasonable rate, I just wanted to add that in my experience buying and selling stuff with him, @BigH has been an honest and generous-spirited community member.
I'm assuming that the Mercian sale is by his mate rather than by BigH himself no?
In other news, I'm loving my Shorter and have covered about 500 miles on it
