80s southern England - knock and run.
Surely Ding Dong Ditch has to be the Australian version?

Knick-knocking in straya.

More straightforward than I'd expect.

Yeah confirm “knock and run”
There was a daring/burglary variant called “what’s for dinner love?” Where a kid would enter an unlocked house and shout “what’s for dinner love?”. Maximum points if you could get to the kitchen grab a knife and fork and bang them on the table while asking the question

Where I grew up in south Oxfordshire in the 90s it was called Cherry Knocking.
-
• #99512
ooh, that's just rung a bell I didn't know was still ringable. Oxford in the 90s had the same, plus a sprinkling of the more prosaic knock and run.

Oh cool, I was starting to suspect it was just my crappy little town(Wantage) that called it that.

• #99514
it's 'ding-dong-dash', obviously

Did you know @Pistanator at school then?

• #99516
Didn’t know he was from there as well. He’s a good few years older than me but there was only one secondary school 🤷♂️

This really is the only forum I've ever used where people get so annoyed should the conversation slightly deviate. Im here for conversation and love the breadth of experience and knowledge. I get it should a convo warrant a new thread but if it's on topic I don't get the frustration

my crappy little town(Wantage)
Historic crappy little town. I grew up about 20 miles away, can't remember what we called it but I did get busted one time and felt bad after, she probably wasn't even ginger.

Knock down Ginger
We had Cherry Knocking in Devon, but we have lots of weird phrases. Big feet? No mate, they're pasty feet. Feeling pleased with yourself? Do you want a chufty badge?

'Chap Door Run', or just 'Chappie' in Livingston, Scotland.
The hardcore variation was to balance a glass bottle (Irn Bru, obvs) on their door handle then ring the bell, so the bottle would smash when they opened the door.
What utter shits we were as children.
"Is Mr Wall there?"
