Wouldn't buy new tyres with one event in mind. I ride Schwable G One Bites everywhere in all conditions...including the DR in the slop last year. Put a few more PSI in.

Given the training and travel I'll be doing, I don't mind investing in a pair of tyres that'll still hopefully see me through the summer after the event.

Ah yeah absolutely. I'm Bite loyal. 45 on front 40 on rear last year (only because 40's were silly cheap when I went to replace rear)
Large ass saver...didn't help anyone's eye balls but was damn necessary for my hoop.

Nice setup.
Did you do the 200 last year?
-
• #28981
The correct answer is not Gravel King.

Any thoughts on this for a well specced gravel bike?
-
• #28983
Clearance for bigger tyres probably limiting
-
• #28984
Yeah. If its wet like that, take lube....I had to piss on my drivetrain :)

My mate has one, its racey. He's never been happy on it for mid to long distance.
Edit: He's moany tho.

I like to piss on my drivetrain

I did alright in Badlands on GKs.
English/Scottish slopfucking might be a whole different ballgame though.

The viscosity is perfect

No you need more true than that.
G one ultrabite
G one bite
Mezcal in smaller size
Conti kingIt's not just about tread but puncture resistance. Loose a lot of time fixing puncture!! Not to mention just a annoying.

Who needs chain lube when you have mud, glorious mud!
-
• #28991
If they like the wets but want less tread then drys are that, but may well be not enough tread with mud around. I've not had a puncture with the drys in well over a year of shitty Manchester commuting and occasional actual rides, I think they're pretty tough tyres.

What are those mudguards and how do you get on with them? look decent.

Indeed, you can clearly see the bike (and presumably the rider) are completely clear of any mud.
-

Not those. But I recently fitted mudhuggers gravel guards. A bit more coverage than those ones, but stay in place well and easy to remove if necessary.

Ass Saver Fendor Bendor is the rear and just one of their small fork guards which is more a headset thing because it didnt do much for my face. Doesn't save anyone behind you but keeps your arse clean and dry.
Even does the job on the XC bike, it you can get the right angle and the velcro strap tight enough it'll do the job on lots of bikes.

Eh excuse me, but can't you see the back of that seat post. I didn't even wash it, just left the back of the seatpost as is. Could eat your dinner off the back of that seatpost to this day!

How about Terreno mix?
-
• #28998
I preferred their Live Acoustic version.
-
• #28999
Oh yeah, forgot there was another one, I thought dry was the middle ground with zero being the least tread, mix is a good shout if they're already happy with the general tyreness of the wets.

That made me lol.
Terreno mix could be an option.
Shortlist is:
G-One R
Cinturato RC
Pathfinder Pro
Terreno MixWill almost certainly change my mind between now and April, however.
I have terra speeds and they're very fast, but fragile. Not the best in loose surfaces either.
