I went with the S2 KEF stands, which iirc have two internal hollow channels.

I think lead shot should be accessible here yes. I can’t imagine not playing anything at all from the moment the little one arrives. There’s plenty of occasions where the missus will be out or the little one is at grandma so I’m not worried about the actual lack of use.

I love the look and reviews of the KC62 but I’m a bit concerned it might be a bit too powerful for the space / apartment.

I filled some stands with kiln dried sand - it's cheap, easy to get hold of and non toxic.

You can always tone it down, no? Its about as small as a sub gets...

I meant steel shot. Oops. I live in yee haw land now so keep seeing signs for lead shot. Must've been in my head.

I got rid of the stands when my son started to crawl and I moved the speakers up. The first time his older cousins came to visit they poked the dust caps though... Whatever you do just accept it might be damaged with kids around.

...is the way to go. But be aware, if ever you move home, this makes them really heavy. My Target Audio stands are maybe 25 kilos apiece and the sand added at least 50% to their weight. If you're in a rush (as we were) and can't find the time to empty them, your removals guys will not be happy!

Speakers with grills are also good. I'm pretty sure I've got a bunch of puzzle pieces that have been posted into the ports on my floorstanders, but I cannot say they have negatively impacted the sound quality.

What is wrong with lead shot? Thought that lead was best. People mentioned using aquarium sand as it is not affected by moisture.

Only if you are careless. It's perfectly safe as ballast when modest precautions are used. I'd still use sand unless you think the huge extra mass of lead is beneficial. Steel shot is half the price of lead by volume and has 75% of the mass gain over sand compared with lead, so you'd really have to be convinced that a little more mass was worth it to switch from steel to lead. If you need some "more money than sense" audiophile flex, there's always tungsten at one and a half times the density of lead and about 30 times the price by volume.

Any recommendations for a Bluetooth adapter to add to the aux input of my preamp? Bit bewildered by all the various standards. Will mostly be used for streaming music from iPhone 13.

We've got one these avantree things. I've plugged it into the amps cassette imputs so it's possible to either stream stuff from my phone in receiver mode or Bluetooth audio from the amp to the radio on the kitchen. Very happy with it.

I'd get a wiim mini or pro instead of bluetooth.
Bluetooth is annoying and using wifi via spotify connect (for example) is much better as you can leave your phone in your pocket and not worry about leaving BT reception and the music will keep playing.
