  • Go on then sir. Worth a try on my Tallboy in hopefully soon to be sw20, I know I need a new more modern rear shock though..

  • Nice :)

  • I’ve done with this fella now and am arranging to pass on to @Bearlegged

    I have learnt that my rear shock was hugely under-pressured, and that my front fork was way too stiff. I could do with volume spacers in both apparently, but that’s a faff for another time. Whether I agree with these diagnoses in the long run is yet to be seen - front fork feels a bit dive-y now and rear feels a bit too firm, but I’m going to let it settle in and see how I feel about it after I’ve got over the shock of the new. At the very least it’s given me the confidence to fuck around with the various settings and get a sense of what kind of impact they have.

    Couple of tips (ymmv, of course)

    • If you don’t have a huge amount of time set aside to ride and ride and ride and you just want to quickly iterate then I’d suggest getting a nice loop that’s representative of your “normal” riding and hitting that repeatedly. The first ride out I did was a big ride out in Ladybower and I hit so many different types of terrain that what I ended up with in feedback was all over the place. Second ride out I did loops of my nearest and dearest descent (devil’s elbow ftw) and repeating the same terrain I think helped me zero in on settings that work for what’s most representative of the kind of riding I do as standard.

    • It seems to collect data for the shock more quickly than for the fork, so if you’ve got a limited amount of riding time I’d weigh more towards the fork than the shock.

    Thanks again to @Shump. I’ve also chucked some cash into the LFGSS coffers.

  • Nice one @Eejit.
    I'm no suspension expert so I found the process really useful as a quickish lesson in which knob does what, and where to begin with pressure adjustments.
    Certainly gives you a good starting point and some idea of where to go from there, and perhaps the confidence to try something which feels quite different.

    Hope you also find it useful @Bearlegged.

    👍

  • May I also join the queue? I should have piped up earlier and then could have got it off @Eejit, who I think also South Yorkshire based!

  • Sure, no problem.
    I think @Bearlegged is nearby to @Eejit, but there are a few people in the queue now. Let's see who's keen once @Bearlegged is finished?

    @Eejit

    @Bearlegged

    @monkdagola / @Amir_Atbak / @TotalShanner

    @WillisG

    @tomatoe

    @Jeromeo

    @jzk

  • This forum is still great.

  • Ok so I'm pulling out as I'm gonna sell my MTB.
    thanks anyhow

  • How are you getting on @Bearlegged?

  • FYI, this utterly gash weather has scuppered any plans/ desire to get the MTB out just yet, so feel free to bump me down the list again!

  • Sorry I'm taking so long. A sprained ankle has delayed things rather, but I've made it out for a first testing session and have bought the extra volume spacers the gizmo is recommending. Slightly panicky about the prospect of actually opening up suspension units (this has to date been something I'll always hand over to my LBS), but here we are.

    General question: I've got a test trail that's pretty representative of what I'll want my suspension to be most effective on, and have been riding up and down it a few times in a session to get a good average. Am I better doing this, or starting a new session for each lap?

  • No problem! Not been the best riding weather.

    I'm not an expert but I think you have to begin a new session if you make any adjustments. Otherwise you can keep riding, and the more data it has the greater the 'confidence' for its suggestion.

    Loads of useful info in the Setup dropdown here.

  • I think I'm about as good as I'm going to get, who's next on the list?
    Massive thanks to Shump for the loan!

  • Nice one!

    Anyone keen? Not really the best time of year for this.... The list was-

    @Amir_Atbak / @TotalShanner

    @WillisG

    @tomatoe

    @Jeromeo

    @jzk

  • Id like to borrow it potentially?

  • If no-one on the list is keen then @konastab01 is up next?
    @Bearlegged can you get in touch and send it on?

  • 👍 will do.

  • Im still keen to borrow it, though happy to wait for @konastab01

  • Can I join the queue after jzk?

  • I've still got this. Please can someone who wants it PM me their address?

  • @jzk is going to pick this up from me.
