  • It’s not bad form as such if it’s just a BB and crankset. What is bad form is when you take a bike in for a service and you give them all the parts, as shops base their service price on selling parts too. Most shops will happily fit a BB and cranks for you.

  • @Chaley thanks both, would you have any idea of what that kind of job might cost?

    Edit - just rang LBS (Lunar Cycles) and they were happy to do it for a rough price of £50. I'd seen someone on Youtube saying they were quoted $250 which gave me a fright.

  • You’re not asking me but neighbourhood of £50 is cheap.

    Remove pedals, remove cranks, remove BB, clean threads, install BB, install cranks, install pedals, possibly realign front derailleur and index front gear. Even a simple square taper BB will take £50 of time and wear on several tools.
