I started work at 4. Forgive me senpai

  • Fair. I'm halfway through first coffee so I'm still angry that I didn't die in my sleep.

WTF are you doing that starts at 4 though? Do you work for Royal Mail or a bakery or something?

  • Crux w/ FD w/ 43mm

Di2 FD is probably bigger too so might be even worse. So I might end up going 1x and then we can have 5 pages of chat about which ring to rule them all...

  • Nothing I'm proud enough about to share in public. It's only for 2 months pending a house move. Got a new gig lined up for the new year

  • Should probably stick with the existing SRAM anyway.

Investigation suggests workers at Shimano's supplier subjected to “slavery-like” exploitation

    https://road.cc/content/news/shimanos-malaysian-supplier-accused-worker-exploitation-305535

  • Taxi driver and/or sex worker combo?

  • Californian clearance

  • Can no one run a manufacturing company without exploiting poorer workers ffs?

It's not Shimano directly but one of their suppliers.

A spokesperson for Shimano said: "This is a serious accusation and it stands against what we believe in at Shimano. We are currently investigating the matter with the relevant parties and will use appropriate action to ensure the situation is resolved."

  • I won't be riding it in mud anyway. It should just about survive Shittish roads with 43mm tyres :)

  • Di2 is less longer towards the tyre surely? Half of that is the AXS battery in the pic.

There's a not too useful pic on here of one with a 40c ~45mm tyre

  • Good point, well made. I just know the FDs are pretty chonk. I'd have to have a look and that requires walking

  • GRX has quite a bit more room then it seems. I don't know what chainline my gravel P2M has but it'll all get thrown on and I'll see what it looks like. If I don't like it's limits I'll stick a 1x grx crank on it w/ maybe 38-40T.

  • I won't be riding it in mud anyway

    Still?

  • I think it will work fine; I am rooting for success

  • Just get a narrow wide ring for the p2m and stick it on the big ring position. You'll only be on the biggest cog a small percentage of the time and chains these days are fine with the angle

  • We did enough mud in Seven Serpents to last me another 10 UK winters anyway.

  • Jobs that start at 4 are the ones to be proud of, no?

  • Not the minimum wage ones

  • Did enough of those, I was always proud I managed to show up...
But I think I get what you mean. Hope it's kind of ok!

  • Yeah it's actually kind of liberating: walk to work under the stars (the village I'm in turns all the street lights off after midnight), punch in, I'm left to get on with it, punch out, leave work at the door and go home without another thought about work until the next shift.
It's brief so I'm not hating it. Come January I'll either be jammed into commuter trains heading into the city or else commuting by motorbike and I'll have some responsibility again. Swings and roundabouts

  • GRX Di2 definitely have more room than SRAM AXS. That's why there's a wide AXS.
I've worked in a lot of GRX equipped bikes and never had problems with 45 tyres. The chainline is wider than road Di2. If you can't space out your existing P2M the GRX FD will be right at the inner adjustment limit to shift.
I'd say try it and if it doesn't work get GRX 48/31 with a 4iii arm, it's big enough for road and a 30 ish cassette and you can get massive range with a 40t cassette if needed.

  • If it makes you feel better I used to do night sorting post while at uni.

1am to 7am and then a day at uni, straight to bed, rinse, repeat.

I think that's where I really honed my ability to function with little sleep :D

The one perk was that during the day I could get stuff done when most people are at work.

  • I mostly climb these days so rarely miss my 53T although 46T max also means I'll never set any downhill speed records it's probably better for my bones this way anyway.
