  • If it is just a one-off fee

Cask prices usually don't include duty/vat and bottling costs so you want to double check. As a rough guide whatever the cost in the barrel is it'll be at least double that in the bottle.

  • Yeah, I did a deep dive a few years back and found the £15 a bottle price soon becomes about £40 once duty, bottling, shipping, etc. comes into play.

I'll wait and see what they say.

  • "Bottlin'? Nah mate, just lie me on the floor and tip 'er over! "

  • Talisker 10 and Sazerak Rye are both £30 on Amazon. Lagavulin 16 is £62, which I suppose is a deal now.

Tempted by Smokehead Islay for £25.

  • opened this bottle this week:

    Pretty tasty!

  • sounds pretty tasty, if a little gimmicky...
    Canadian whisky? 🤨

  • Canadian whisky? 🤨

Japanese have been using it for years, calling it Japanese and flogging it for ridiculous prices, so it can't be that bad.

A rare bottle of whisky has been sold for $2.7m (£2.1m) - breaking the record for the most expensive wine or spirit sold at auction.

The Macallan 1926 single malt is one of the world's most sought-after bottles of Scotch whisky.

and the last line of the article " One is said to have been destroyed in an earthquake in Japan in 2011, and it is believed at least one other has been opened and consumed. "

    consumed ... heaven forfend, sacrilege

  • I'd like to be rich enough to buy a crazy bottle at auction and then crack it open and have a swig.

  • Rich enough to buy two - crack one open, reduce the number available thus increasing the value of your unopened bottle.

  • the radio 6 news announcer stated, and i quote, if you were to open the bottle and sell measures, a shot with soda would be £100,005 or so

i'm guessing if someone ordered a measure of this whisky " and soda " they would probably get beaten to a pulp by all the other people in the boozer and have their £100,005 taken away from them

  • the cheeky auctioneer also took a wee dram from the bottle for " authentication purposes "

    hic!

  • I feel guilty enough treating myself to a £40-50 bottle...
how is it justifiable to spend that much money on a bottle of booze? or anything for that matter?

  • Lagavulin 16 down to £60 on Amazon atm

  • Been looking at all the ampersand stuff recently.
    Christmas one is getting bought.

  • Yes, had some last Christmas. Does exactly what it says on the bottle really - very drinkable, perfect for this time of year.

  • Thanks, think we'll try it 👍

  • Been wanting to get round to this for a while, pretty much exactly what I was expecting from a young Ardbeg, bigger punch of alcohol and medicinal peatiness than the 10 but still has the classic Ardbeg taste. Was expecting a bit of sweetness but it's very sweet to me.

I'll have a couple more this evening then come back to it in a month to see how it opens up.

  • Use it or lose it - and report back! Assume that anyone can take the code but may be wrong.

  • I tried to give my partner a code I had as he's buying me whisky for Xmas but it didn't work, it's account specific it seems.

  • i really quite enjoyed the wee beastie.
had a few glasses of ardbeg 10 last night, as my wife let slip that she'd bought me a bottle for xmas, and i've got a 3/4 full bottle in the stash already.

i've got a whisky night coming up where the theme is 'age statement over 10' so i'll probably take that along as an extra bottle.

not sure what to buy as my main bottle though - i think we've already tried all of the obvious ones... any recommendations welcome! looking to keep it fairly reasonable though.

  • Have Lidl released a fancy bottle this year?

I've had some of their previous offerings, £40 for a 19yo Islay last year (or maybe 2021, i cant remember) was pretty good.

  • Arran?
It's pretty simple "this is nice".
