  • Just polo in general.

  • These do look good. In need of new pads having lost one of my pair last week (POC VPD Air). Might be a bit pricey though, I tended to just pull them down while pedalling but have been using trousers more often now and that not as easy.

Tried pedalling in some Dainese rental pads this week and I have the scars to prove it.

  • I have these . I've done 35k rides on them with no significant chaffing issue.
Definitely not burly kneepad territory but saved my shins/knee from some damages when falling.

  • rental pads

    🤢

  • Tell me about it. I believe there is a knee pad going around the security conveyor belt at EDI constantly on a loop.

  • The OneUp dropper has moved from Stanton to Scott but might still be too tall.
But, at least it works. Going to get 165mm cranks and stick what shim pins I have left in it to drop it a bit and that might be enough. Anyone got any Shimano 1x 165mm cranks they want rid of?

On to the Stanton. LBSGuy™ tried his own, very new, Fox dropper in it - it was at 9Nm but not over 10Nm of torque!!! just to stop it twisting but he said the Fox dropper did at least still function. But it is brand new. He tried shimming with cans but it didn't help (iced tea not IPA which might be the issue)

So, thinking about getting a 27.2 dropper and a longer plastic shim down from 30.9 to try and "fill the gaps" better.

Other than burning all my MTBs and going back to picking silly lightweight gravel bikes, any other brilliant ideas. I'm off to look for a 27.2->30.9 shim.

The Scott did at least finally touch some proper dirt though. Hooray

Great time of year for it

  • The Scott did at least finally touch some proper dirt though

    Probably needs a service now

  • There was a clunk when it was fully locked out but fixed with some cable tension on the lever.

  • hippy, is this a one up V2 cable operated dropper? what size did you get, I believe they make a really long version right? how’s your been? it looks easy to unhook remove/install. I’m thinking of getting one for the new bike when I have sold my two mtbs

  • Yeah, internal routed cable dropper. 180mm I think with shims to take it to 160 maybe?

Dunno about the unhooking bit. It had never come out until I handed both bikes over to the LBS to play around with swapping them. I've added air to it which was a bit of a faff, having to take the saddle off. Seems pretty versatile but I wouldn't recommend if you have a Stanton or steel frame that needs a lot of clamp force to hold the post.

  • thanks dude

  • There was a clunk when it was fully locked out

    Just the engine stalling

  • I've had two now, a 180 and then a 210. Both absolutely flawless. Their customer service is excellent too. I've changed crank length recently and actually think I could squeeze a shimmed 240 in my frame now, so I may have a 210 for sale after Xmas

  • It does have a bit of a scratch on the stanchion though. Doesn't affect the performance, just means wiping under the seal a bit more often which is a 5 second job

  • I've been putting a groupset upgrade on my YT on the long finger for a long time and the near death derailleur that's on there at the moment has been a small part in me barely riding the thing at all for the last year (life has mainly been in the way but knowing it shifts like a turd isn't inspiring me to get it out either...)

    Hubs are Hope Pro4 on a 142mm x 12mm axle...
Should I be able to fit a 12-speed cassette on there?

Recommendation for groupset these days? Do I go wireless?

I would quite like to give it a good once over too as it's still plenty of bike for me and I'm not in the market for a change at the moment... I did the bearings when I built it but not ridden it an awful lot since (I would say less than 500km) then so I'm not sure it's worth doing them again?

    Thoughts and prayers?

  • Recommendation for groupset these days? Do I go wireless?

    Advent X

  • 12-speed ideally... any word on release date for Advent XII?

  • ah then defo wireless; GX AXS, you can install a 12 speed cassette on a Shimano HG freehub, in fact I have one in my shed that I need to get rid; I think 11-50 or something; works with GX AXS

  • 12 speed is fine if you don't want a 10t on a HG freehub, if you do then you'll need a new freehub from hope, either microspline or XD, I'd recommend microspline and a Shimano cassette and chain as they shift beautifully.

  • 165mm XT cranks and a 28T inbound for the Spark.
Also ordered an Ortlieb Quick Rack and OMM thruaxle kit for the Stanton as well as a 30.9->27.2 seatpost reducer to test out a 27.2 dropper my LBS guy has.

  • This is the info I need... I'm pretty sure I've got a Shimano SLX HG81 10-speed cassette on there at the moment and I see bike-discount.de are doing a very decent offer on GX AXS upgrade kit with chain and 10t-50t XG-1275 cassette so will I need to change the freehub? Will that cassette only be XG compatible or can I go Microspline?

I'm trying to minimise purchases/ potential for ordering the wrong thing as I'm pitching this as an excellent Christmas present to my wife :)

  • Should I be able to fit a 12-speed cassette on there?

Only an NX one, if it's an HG freehub. And NX cassettes are really shit, so I would change your freehub as has been suggested so you can choose from more

  • Cool, I'll probably just go for XD then as it means I can get the rest of the kit all in one...
