• Watch the our new video where Ian tells us about the traumatic brain injury he suffered after being hit by an HGV. He wasn't wearing a helmet. Now, three years later, he wants to tell his story to make sure you think twice.

  • Doesn't actually state that the helmets would or even could have prevented any of the injuries depicted on the helmets and implying these helmets can protect from things they aren't designed to.

  • That video and those helmets make me irrationally angry. It's every conversation about not wearing a helmet that I've ever had turned into a graphic.
I'm assuming Endura/Pentland, aren't worried about more people cycling, and are more concerned with more cyclists wearing helmets, preferably their helmets.

Or they've just made this for the ranty cyclists reaction to it. Cycling clickbait in helmet form.

  • Honest question: what’s the difference in crash performance between motorcycle and pedal cycle helmets? Motorcycle helmets do work, no?

  • Motorcycle helmets do work, no?

Same answer as bicycle helmets; they have some benefit in some situations. The main difference is that the very strong, hard, continuous shell and greater coverage provides much better protection against abrasion and intrusion. The protection against shock deceleration is only slightly better, essentially in proportion to the greater distance from the shell to the skull.

If you crash like a racer, sliding and tumbling over a fairly flat surface without coming to a sudden stop, motorcycle helmets will usually spare you completely from a lot of minor head and face injuries.

  • Always good to have that idea shot down in public every once in a while.

Next reading scheduled (currently) for 24th November: https://bills.parliament.uk/bills/3472

The next stage for this Bill, Second reading, is scheduled to take place on Friday 24 November 2023.

The House is currently not expected to sit on this day and the Bill is therefore not expected to be taken.

  • Yes, but we have to be lucky always, and they only need to be lucky once.

  • Anyone spotted a Specialized Prevail Vent in White/Medium anywhere? All seem sold out online.

I bought the Prevail 3 to upgrade from my now 6 year old Prevail and the sizing/shape is different. M sort of fits but I can't decide if it's too small or not and L is way too big. The curse of being right between sizes...

  • Dunno if this is the place to ask but has anyone got experience of the Kask Mojito3 over previous versions?
I dented my Kask when I impacted the trail and need to replace it. One of the reasons I chose the Mojito was it fitted my head better than anything else I’d tried. Reading that the new Kask is more ‘mushroomy’.

  • Yes it is, I bought one online to replace an old-style Mojito and really wish I hadn't. Bigger on the head and doesn't fit anywhere near as well.

  • Thank you! (and sorry). Such a drag when this happens…

Calls for helmets after a (dangerous) driver struck an e-scooter rider. The mind boggles.

  • She was also walking. Helmets for all pedestrians...

  • I had two of the earlier mojitos and now have a 3. The fit is ever so slightly less round than the previous but it still fits really well. I think I like it better.
For sure there is more material on top in front but it doesn't bother me, it seems like it would be safer/stronger.

  • It's time for YEHUDA MOON

  • Thanks! I managed to find a 3 in stock in my size, where I could try it on and YES, while it’s not my favourite looking lid, it still feels like a better fit than anything else I’ve tried.

  • Is this a write-off...?

    (I know it is)

  • Yes.. more importantly, are you OK?

  • Yeah I know, very much done its job and will be retired, this one! It's my wife's and she's got a bit of a sore neck - didn't lose consciousness though and we're keeping an eye on it. Thanks

  • I once fractured my skull when I fell off. Wasn't wearing a helmet. Woke up with a neurosurgeon asking me tricky questions to see if I needed an operation. I suspect a helmet would have prevented the fracture. But the lesson I learned was not to twat around on American bikes, which all have the brake cables connected arse about face. (The back wheel slid and I fell on my temple.)

  • Motorcycle helmets do work, no?

In the US and UK, if helmets aren't worn the leading cause of death is/was head injury. When they are worn, leading cause of death is chest injury, i.e. ribs puncturing organs, internal bleeding etc.

In the warm south of the US where people often ride in a t shirt or a denim vest, helmet compulsion led to an increase of patients who survived a big crash but had massive tissue loss from sliding down the road. They'd need a very long hospital stay with lots of skin grafts, and often they had no health insurance. This was too expensive for a number of states, so they repealed the helmet law for riders who carried proof of health insurance.
