  • There isn't much if an accent in the Charente, much like brittany for instance. True parisian accent is at least as pronounced so you're lucky here.

True parisian families don't escape to the countryside, they have enough money to stay and travel bacl and forth to their secondary homes. They eventually add to the list of secondary homes

  • I was being a touch facetious, but only I touch. I have friends from Paris who are sound but they're the exception to the rule tbh.

The minute you get outside of the île-de-France it's comical how different people are. Paris is better than it was 10 years ago but that's not really saying much. The cuntiness of Parisiens is a big part of it's charm if it got nice it'd just be weird.

  • especially the ones not born in Paris but moved there ;)

Ha, this is very true. I've always said Paris is just full of the worst most pretentious cunts of every small town/village in the country. Their never ending ability to shit on anywhere that's not Paris or give you a Paris version of something/place you like that's better is their superpower.

  • French attitudes to Paris and Parisians are pretty much the same as English attitudes to London and Londoners. And Parisian attitudes to the rest of France are pretty much the same as Londoners attitudes to the rest of England. No stereotypes of course.

Agree that organised language courses are the best way to properly learn, initially at least, and especially if you have very little previous experience of the language. I found Alliance Française in Paris full of cunts quite helpful when I first arrived.

  • Parigots têtes de veaux!
    Parisiens têtes de chiens!

  • Whenever I read that phrase I still hear in my head "Collignon, tête de fion!"

  • Passed my French B1 nationality test. Thought I'd cocked up the listening test, the headphones were shit and was really struggling to hear. Still loads to work on with my language level but it's a massive relief to have that out of the way so I can apply for citizenship.

  • Congrats! Do you have to go through an interview process like here in Switzerland? It's hilarious the range of questions they can ask you. We're meant to know the names and parties of all 240 odd pmembers of parliament, plus all the major mountains and rivers etc etc. I suspect it's the same for the UK, but thankfully never had to worry about it before.

  • I've no idea tbh, I'm claiming nationality through marriage and the only requirement I didn't have was proof of B1 French, going to start the application tonight as the system for visas and residence is completely fucked (my current visa is going to expire and I have no idea when or if it'll be renewed even though I made the application 3 months before expiry as instructed). Fuck learning all the mps! Although I do know a couple thanks to the cluster fuck elections, if there is one hopefully they'll just ask me what's my favourite wine and cheese.

My wife got uk nationality just before we left, she had to learn about kings and who won the war etc and her interview was just questions to prove it was her applying and not some imposter.

  • Started doing my application for nationality, it's long but I was finding it reasonably straight forward, until they asked me for both my parents' birth certificates translated as well all my proof of residences for the last 10 years translated.

Absolute comedy, don't know my dad so had to trawl through the registry to find it, hopefully they'll send me the right one, fuck knows how long all the translations will take and how much it'll cost. Also in the process of buying a house so we should be moving in September and there's no way to update your residence once you've applied, I'm locked into the documents section.

I'm sure it'll be sorted in within the year 😂

  • Oh, je ne connaissais pas ce fil-ci. Est-ce qu'on dit «fil» en français? Je ne sais même pas ça.

  • And disappointment strikes, as apart from Loïc, no-one posts in French. :) Only just read the first page.
