On the gambling we used to go to the casino at uni. Usually just £20 limit with the aim of fun and enough for Miss Millie's Fried Chicken.
Over the years I was probably about £400 up playing roulette. Much to the absolute fury of a poker playing mate who'd 'invested' £ks to hone his technique.
However, I found out after I'd left that one of my mates I'd often go with who'd typical just be a bit down developed a gambling habit and spent absolutely every penny they had on (mainly on online gambling). I felt awful for all those times I'd ask them if they were up for the casino.
