Their top model has 3 times the thrust. https://www.jetcat.de/en/productdetails/produkte/jetcat/produkte/Professionell/P1000 What would you do with it?
My cynical side says they sell it because they can. A jet that size with around 100kg thrust doesn’t have much practical use. It’s not big enough for a jet kart and it’s way too big for any model. Cost is probably around €10k. So what do you do with it?
Back in the late 90s / early 00s I used to build model jets. There was the pulse-jets forum and we used to build the most ridiculous pulsejets and turbines out of old turbochargers just because we could, and generally we just used to run them on the bench. Commercial turbines were available and there were people on the internet who had them, but why would would you splash out thousands on something that realistically will just sit on a bench and make a lot of noise? Of course, with people on YouTube throwing loads of Patreon money at videos now, these sorts of engines get bought and turned into money-making videos.
Here’s a guy off the old pulse-jets forum still doing it the old way (he didn’t have the huge white beard back then though):
As this seems to be the ersatz RC plane thread, perhaps I could mention the 142 kg 1/6 scale Concorde built by Otto Widlroither? It took him 3 years. Because it's over 20kg he has to apply for exemptions from aviation authorities every time he flies it. In practice he can only do this twice a year.
He loops it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Csx7K01qny0
It's all scratch built apart from the turbines and servos and things. The first year of the build was spent on computer design. He needed to sneak in under the 150kg limit, above which no RC plane gets permission to fly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHk34AjP53k&t=243s
These are the turbines. Each has a 6l tank of kerosene. https://www.jetcat.de/en/productdetails/produkte/jetcat/produkte/Professionell/p300%20pro I'm not sure they have any application other than RC planes. Amazing that they exist at all. I wonder how many they sell?
