  • To counter the French brewing positivity I have to report Spain including the Balearics and Canary Islands continued to pump out the worst craft beers in existence. Lanzarote local brewery Nao the latest to disappoint. Another half bottle poured down the sink.

  • Hit and miss definitely but there are some great Spanish breweries. Love the stuff done by Ales Agullons, La Calavera, La Pirata, Dougall's, Cyclic Beer Farm to name but a few. Admittedly lots is northern/Catalan, but there's good stuff out there.

  • Probably not to the usual liking on this thread (low strength lager), but I’ve been really enjoying this Spanish beer, available at the local Morrisons on offer:

And this on same offer, although slightly less good IMO, but stronger:

  • Great two day dark beer festival on at the Hope in Carshalton … some fantastic stouts and porters - favourite was a Tudor old ale from Kirkstall , and a dubbel from Torreside and ….. etc etc etc … very pissed ride home - brilliant !

  • Been meaning to make it over to one of their beer festivals, have heard great things

  • Lovely pub , great set up .. good keg range in the pub and nice tent for casks out back - very , very typical Camra crowd but super nice way to spend a dank winters afternoon - some lovely beers.

  • Was there yesterday ! The weird beard Sadako was one of the first beers to go !
    Going back this afternoon......

  • Brave !
Weird Beard was nice but the Vibrant Forest - lovely … mmmm …
Quite jealous but can’t brave the cold / get that bolloxed again !

  • Rattle and Rum is very good as is Layer Cake, so silky.

On a similar, velvety vibe, I do like Brew York’s ‘Nougat a Friend in Me’ too

  • Gluhkriek time

  • Just cracked the Northern Monk Gateau. Slaps. Like those dark chocolate cherry liqueur things at Christmas

  • There was was one cask beer left when I got there around 3:30 pm

  • Got up at 5am to drive to Belgium to buy beer. Don’t regret it. Do regret not buying any of this tho…

  • The unboxing pic is from my mate who bought something in the region of four times more than my stripy receipt shows. He turned up with four sides of A4 of recommend beers to track down. I just picked a crate’s worth at close to random.

  • Just saw this in Sainos. Not too sweet? Those chocolate ones are often a bit too much.

  • Perfect day out.

Are there any issues with customs coming home, do they check the back of the car or van? I’ve lost track of the rules since Brexit.

  • Yeah man. We were supposed to do a collection from Westvleteren again, but couldn’t get the slot we needed. Ended up diverting to Vanuxeem and lunch in Ypres. Was a fun trip.

There is a limit now, and it has to be “for personal use”- it’s something like 40 litres of beer per person, which is 5 crates I think. Basically, it’s more than you can credibly fit in a car if you have 3 or 4 people.

Still well worth doing if you like your Belgian stuff.

  • It's the most wonderful time of the year...

  • Christmas beer order p much finalised:
    24 x Green Mountain (Thornbridge)
    24 x Daily Bread (Abbeydale)
    12 x Lumina (Siren)
    12 x Broken Dream (Siren)
1 x mini keg Hypernova (Siren)
1 x mini keg IPA for Christmas Days (Siren)
24 x Peroni (for the olds)

Equivalent of 78 pints. Should be sufficient to get me through. Guess I’ll just resort to drinking brake fluid if it’s not.
