Not sure about the best (nor is it particularly close to Kentish Town), but Kennedy's on Whitecross St. in Clerkenwell was always my go-to for fish & chips

Olivers on Haverstock Hill or Chippy on the Corner on Cally Road, both decent.
Neither are quite Trenchers level, mind.

Probably a bit late now, but Nautilus in West Hampstead/Fortune Green or The Seashell of Lisson Grove, near Marylebone station.
