  • Nailed it.

Basically, if your frame costs more than a six pack of craft beer, it's not a winter bike. Go back and try again.

  • That's bollocks. It's likely the bike you are going to ride the most throughout the year, so get something decent rather than riding some old piece of shit.

  • Well, you might. I'm a tightarse (and who specified old?). That's why I like Kinesis stuff for year round abuse. I don't cry when I drop an allen key on a £700 frame or ride the cheapest Shimano BB through a flooded road. I only took the Shiv out in bad conditions when it was a race or leading to a race. I didn't just flog it day in day out. That was what the PX was for.

I did shitloads of miles on my Ribble Audax, that was the wrong size, before giving it away. Think they were less than £100 new. If you're that fussy about your bikes, maybe you should stick to the turbo in winter. :-*

  • Agreed. Just because it’s winter you don’t need to ride a shit bike..

As long as you run a cheaper chain, cassette, BB and mudguards then what’s the problem? There isn’t one. It’s not being fussy. I think if you are a bike person you’ll get it!
