For whatever reason if you search for depreciation of between 10-11k per annum it's Suzuki Swifts as far as the eye can see here.

Racist. ;)
Yeah, what has changed? From seeing news stories, chop shops seem to be in Essex dear the docks, or roads to the docks. But that might be where I read the news.

Certain car owners brand and models stereotypes are fitting.
Where would you get so many seats without the internal airbags going off.

Did the garage get in contact with you to tell you what the fault light was?
-
• #76381
They did not. Hence now action on my part - I’m done.

That one is inexplicably chavved up but I did enjoy the video. Mines an excellent thing.

The Peugeot 508 estates look rather nice, and they do fast ones.

My rejection case, acknowledged as 'not unexpected' has been referred to the dealership aligned trading standards bod - seems a legitimate step to verify what I am saying is true i.e Section 19 of the CRA and haven't just made up some jumbo.
Results of referral due Friday. Back to Autotrader I go...
Kind of sad that I didn't think to put a hidden message through the email in a James May fashion:

Got talking to a bloke in the garage this morning, talked cars from the 80s. We both had had R5 turbos. He took me through to the back, pulled the curtain open and showed me his white 87 that had been, externally and mechanically, perfectly restored. He had spent £47k and it still needed the interior. There is keen on cars and keen on cars

I'm getting insurance quotes on an old VW Passat, it just failed MOT on these. What's likely repair bill? I'm guessing £100 for tyre but not clue on the other one. Keen to have idea before I approach repair garage or agree to buy (private sale). Thanks.
Fail • Do not drive until repaired (dangerous defects) ] ! • Tyre has ply or cords exposed Offside Rear [5.2.3 (d) (ii) • Repair immediately (major defects) • Anti-roll bar linkage ball joint dust cover no longer prevents the ingress of dirt Offside From [5.3.4 (b) (ii)]

Second item will be a new drop-link. Not much for a pattern part, but labour and wheel alignment will bump it up.

How much tread is left on the nearside rear? Might be sensible to do both together. A lot of online tyre shops do discount codes when buying more than one.

Check the rear springs/spring cups as the cord thing sounds like the spring breaks and touches the tyre. A certain model of Passat rear spring as a mate has gone through a few.

You can work out the exact cost of the tyres: https://www.blackcircles.com/
I'll admit I've been slack before on replacing old tyres with plenty of tread but are starting to crack. But if someone's driving a car with the fabric coming through that's pretty extreme.
I would expect all 4 tyres would need replacing, and be prepared for there not being a usable spare - can imagine a passat has a full size spare.

I had a 1.0 fiesta hire car for a couple of weeks. It was like being 17 again (with better brakes and tyres).
