  • Pastry, butter, mincemeat… kinda makes sense actually

  • Where you see this dude?

  • Lidl have got their Speculoos and almond mince tarts in stock again.
I've already eaten two boxes of them.

  • Lovely cheers @atk

  • Lol wtf

Just had a Greggs Mince Pie. Normally my standout favourite, but disappointed, I think they've changed the filling recipe. It was way to tangy and sweet. The pastry was still brilliant (they are always going to win on that front being freshly baked), and still good price, but I'm not going back for more in a hurry. Time to make my own....

  • I've been picking up the occasional gregg's mincer since mid October (?!) & reckon they're still pretty solid, usually i'm steaming drunk & it's a couple for the last train home but don't think they're too different from previous generations - the pastry is the standout feature for sure though.

Sainsbury's had the TTD numbers down to £1.75 / 6 earlier, has to be a good investment - although there's a couple of local bakeries i've got my eye on (Glasgow area)

  • Oh still rate them for sure. I just wasn’t loving the filling as much as I remember. Maybe my tastes have changed.

  • Bar the odd mini mincer my misses still insists on buying (I've told her they are a scam at least twice every season) I've broken into my first pack of TTD Sainsbury's full sizers. Promised I'd try to have a mini health kick before Xmas really gets going but I'm 3 pies deep today already and tonight's dinner called for quarter of a can of beer and all I had was Guinness, so I've drunk the rest of that too.

  • this is the kind of mini health kick i can get behind.

  • Try my patented method of 9 pints of fighting strength lager as a precursor, works a charm - never tasted so good!

  • Hope I don’t ruin your Christmas, but maybe of interest;

Edit. Abel and Cole are also made by Authentic Bread Co....not sure why I've bothered checking tbf...

  • Eff me! A pound a minced pie! I'll stick with my co-op ones, thanks. Vegan, and last pack I bought was on offer at £1 for 6.

  • tangy and sweet

I've thought this for ages, just nowhere near as good as they were ten years ago

  • just nowhere near as good as they were ten years ago
    This is just getting old.

  • Pophams drops 8am tomorrow

  • Sadly Morny in Leyton are closing on 22nd December, so if you want to try their mincers this is your last chance!

Last year I positively reviewed their 'OG' with cinnamon milk crumb and the Amaretto and custard. I don't know if they're doing the Amaretto and custard this year but they're definitely doing the OG.

  • smashed a box of sainsburys TTD last night with the football. would recommend.

  • First mincer of the season, Greggs, definitely more tangy than usual but I still enjoyed. Pastry still a winner.

  • First foray into baking.
Bread Ahead my previous absolute favourites, figured their recipe was the one to pursue.

    Conclusions:
    a) Very satisfying experience; will mince again
    b) 2 minutes** in the air fryer and suddenly 4 mincers for breakfast before the mid morning mincer with coffee seems entirely acceptable especially as they are free*
    c) Mrs LIL would prefer a heavier citrus presence
    d) the bread ahead recipe is too heavy on the ol' suet; it's best warm but does weather a longer bake for a more delightful pastry. Next batch will be 50% of the suet recommended to test...

*oh jesus that's a lot of pure fat this isn't a free mince pie this is going to correlate directly with a coronary but my god what a way to go maybe I should have another just to make sure I make it up the stairs ok to my home office

** 2 mins @ 180 the sweet spot so far

  • A good excuse to go quality and not quantity and not pig out... saying that, I'm glad to see Greggs in the top third of the table. I know where I'm going tomorrow...

  • Picked up from St. John, Pavillion, Pophams and Fortitude this weekend

Fortitude reigns supreme and is clear

  • Bought a box of six from M&S today. Good - lovely orange tang to the meat.
