  • I run 12 speed chorus, set it up myself so it did take a bit of tweaking, more than 10 speed took me, but it works well.
    I didn't fork out the extra cash on the 12 speed cables as my cockpit isn't integrated so I didn't really see the benefit of the extra bendy cables.
    I also didn't buy a campag 12 speed chain and went for a KMC X12.
    I would say my set up is loud compared to my 10 speed centaur winter drive train which is also uses a KMC chain.

  • Think there was plenty of chat on here about snapped Record cranks.
    I've done more miles on mine than most people and have had no issues.

  • Always hard to argue against the idea that Shimano 'just works' in a way that Campag and SRAM don't. I've often thought that pragmatically 105 or GRX 600 would do absolutely everything I could possibly need them to.

    But it just doesn't do it for me like Campag does. Dunno why.

    So seeing what's happened with Campag over the last 6-7 years has been a bit sad for me. I grew up seeing Colnagos with Record in my LBS and salivating over them, and telling myself that if I could ever afford one, that's what I'd get. Then when I did have the money, I bought SRAM. The shame :-)

  • I'm kinda lucky, in that, I rode my mate's custom built yada yada in the 90s with Campag and went "wtf is this shit?".

    Bear in mind, my bike had down tube shifters on it at the time.

    I think the thing that tipped me over the edge was the 7.5mm allen key I needed for something. I can't remember if it was cranks or brakes but I presume it was monoplanar brakes from some old edition. They looked sexy but fucking 7 point fucking 5 mm allen key? Get to fuck.

    I was warmed up to hating them though because in Oz there was only one Campag distrib and they price gouged the fucked out of the market so only #golfclub members would be riding Campag there.

  • First generation C Record:
    3.5 mm for cable fixing bolt on Delta brakes.
    Non standard braze on positioning for front derailleur.
    So many good ideas but they mess up the silliest details.

    I want to like Campagnolo, it’s important that there are alternatives in the market. But Campagnolo does everything they can to make it difficult.

  • They do make nice looking stuff - their Ekar cranks were on my partner's bike before I swapped it all out for Di2 GRX. But even if it was also functional/practical I wouldn't keep it because it's too much extra effort maintaining extra groupsets. Same deal with SRAM.

  • On a related note, can any of the mechanical experts chime in on a v minor fault:

    On mechanical 12sp, I've found that shifting up the cassette (to bigger sprockets) is hard to get 'in sync' with the click of the derailleur. The shift generally seems to want to jump the gun slightly, if that makes sense. It's very minor but it is a smidge annoying.

  • Have you got the posh proper Campag 12s cables? Pretty essential to perfect 12s setup.

  • Had similar situation with Record 10sp fitted to an old frame (MGOOF!).
    Chain length was the issue for me i.e. chain too long.

  • The 7.5 were some 3T stems IIRC

  • Wasn’t the self extracting allen bolt for old school C Record cranks 7mm?

  • Making a chain guard fit for those 5 arm asymmetric 110 cranks.

  • Its pretty funny, because i got a 110 bcd Hope Keeper chainring and it fits perfectly on the CT cranks no problem. Its strange that some 110 patterns seem to be just a little bit different

  • the one hole that's off is I believe l like 1mm. So I'm assuming that a little bit of play in a ring with the narrow Campy bolts could totally work.

  • Yes exactly, as you can see below, just slightly outward than a standard 110 bcd, but i used a chainring bolt and it works perfectly and it holds just fine !

    ps. yes i did change the bearings and add the other bolts of course ;)



  • Hello guys, I have a Bianchi xr2 with a campagnolo potenza 11 (ultra torque). When I had the groupset installed, the BS apparently has used Shimano cables. I've been using it since last summer and haven't had many issues with it. Well, I don't think I've had issues at all to be honest.

    Do you guys think I've been missing on any features by not having campagnolo 's cables?

  • I’m in Canada but anyone can have them for postage.

  • I bought a set of Record 11 speed shifters off eBay. They looked in decent nick from the photos apart from some small tears to the hoods (easy to replace). I thought I got a pretty good deal on them but when they turned up there was quite a lot of grime and dirt inside the mechanism plus a broken bit of cable that I removed but the shifting seemed to be working ok on both. I then removed the hoods and the main levers and started cleaning the inside with some cotton buds and isopropyl alcohol. (I think I’m right in saying that these post 2009 shifters can’t be fully stripped down). The problem now is the left shifter doesn’t seem to be working as in its not catching the ratchet, both main lever and thumb shifter are just sliding up and around without the mechanism engaging.

    Have I inadvertently borked them with some cottons buds or is there a way to reset it somehow?

  • Never played with a set of shifters this modern, a shame if campagnolo engineered them to not be fixable.
    Usually no clicks is the sign of the flat coil spring not being housed properly or a mount being broken.

    Maybe as a last ditch attempt before taking apart you can put a cable in there, if possible, put it under tension and see if shifting with tension helps the mechanism out at all.

    Otherwise no idea ...

  • I managed to wrangle the toothed ratchet back round so it engages with the lever mechanism again but if I do too many clicks down it slips round again and won't engage. I can get a cable fed through but shifting is not winding the cable in so something is obviously in the wrong position or out of alignment. The left shifter was the one which had the piece of cable snapped off inside the body so maybe that had something to do with it?
    The perils of buying stuff on eBay! I messaged the seller and he said he had them working before but would do a refund or a discount if they were genuinely not working/damaged.
    Tempted to start taking it all apart but might not get it back together again.
