What about a Lumintop B01?
Micro USB is a little irritating, but looks great value. Does it allow running in high power mode while charging?

It's usb type C. I think it was originally micro usb.
Will check later on the charging

Yep lumi housing originally halogen that I dropped some led bits into. My very first light had a desk lamp tapped to the stem. Cannot bring myself to bin em..
Back in the 90s, I used to make them from the front end of a shitty Eveready flashlight. I'd trade out the bulb for a halogen and stick a RC car 6 cell battery in a water bottle. Many a night rides using that set up.
Then I got one of these NightSun which truth be told was a great piece of basic solid engineering. Great mounting system. I loved them.

Nice .
Similar - did most of my night racing/ riding with bodged setups.
I bought the nite rider 2nd hand.
They were famed for the bulb kit lasting very long, but this thing still works a treat and the warm up to full beam strength is super cool. -

This takes me right back, I had a giant lead acid battery and 75W of dual halogen power.
Created awesome steam when rain or snow hit the front glass.

Love it. Winter trail riding at night with home made studded tired and lighting systems with shit flying everywhere and frozen brakes. Awesome kid shit.

I know, I have both.

Amazing. I can't believe I used to strap a big lead acid battery to my downtube.
Found some old pics of my efforts. I think the small one was a gillette can.
And then a three Cree Q5 light made from 4 pieces of box section aluminium.

This, a very good light and not expensive.
Much better than Exposure Strada IME. -

No, it runs in low power mode when charging.
I get seven hours off mine on medium setting so never been an issue for me . I've used it through the night in summer but I've not ridden right through a winter night. If you need longer, you could get two, given the price.
Mine is USB-C

Good point. Presto chango:

Why two lights when you can change the battery?
They look good, thanks for the tip. -
• #5668
Sure - it's the second battery that you actually need but it can be a faff to change batteries in the dark. A second light is really just an easy way to carry a spare battery.

You definitely have a point.

What's the forum recommended cheap usb front and rear flashy lights for my country lane commute. I have a front to see where I'm going so this is to be seen.

I have a Moon Nebula rear light that I really like. Loads of different modes and the battery lasts pretty well. I actually bought 2 but can't see myself using the second one. Let me know if a new, boxed Nebula is of interest, I'd let it go for a decent price!

These are quite good lights, they're what I've used for town use for the last few years.
Shaped beam and reasonably bright. Probably brighter than my old exposure strada! Only weakness IME is that the rubber band mount can slip so you have to adjust them, but not such an issue for being seen.

Quick PSA.
I reached out to Exposure about the Boost DB + Boost-R Reakt pack as they have both lights individually, but not the set.
When I asked about when the pack will be stocked, I was told:
“We have switched our BoostR ReAKT across to USB-C but not yet the Boost front light, so until this has happened, we won’t have the packs available I’m afraid. It will likely be a month or so before the packs are built and in stock.”
Just in case anyone else is wondering the same.

Whats the forum go to light for mounting to a rear rack? I like the run time on my moon orion but looking for something that can be bolted on?

Pannier specific lights have always struck me as a little underwhelming (but maybe things have changed). With 3D printing, you can have your cake, pick the light you want and budget for some extra mounts, like..
Diablo is brighter than Sirus though. But yeah, a used Strada is best value IMO.
