I’ve used one of these before, wedged up in the joint, because I can still play with the lever in a fidget gadget way.

I looped an o ring around the cable port and then round the bars.

n3il; paypal say there was nothing wrong with the transaction. What puzzles me is that looking at my list of DDs on my bank account the one-off payment via paypal is in the list of payments under the DD I have for the NYT. Maybe it's a bank error rather than a paypal one.
-
• #119555
Could the NYT subscription also use PayPal?
-
• #119556
Yes it does. But other stuff I've paid for with paypal shows up with a reference under it on my bank account, this one shows up as DD and I found it with the NYT payments. It's a puzzle.

I have had a few PayPal transactions go through as direct debit in the past. They always show up in my DDs but they only come out the once and I just delete them occasionally

I’ve used BigRingVR in the past. Not free, but a good database of climbs.

I need to buy a few hundred 100mm long M8 bolts. Any suggestions where from that will deliver by the end of the week?
Screwfix have them, partially threaded about the last 20mm (according to reviews). This should be enough but only just, so I'd rather find some others that have a bit more thread. (Ideally comparable price ~23p each or less.)

Orbital Fasteners are worth a look.

RS (may be too expensive though)

I've used GWR fasteners before, usually through eBay. For small orders they send royal mail 24, haven't checked what they use for larger orders though.
Zinc plated, fully threaded (22p): https://www.gwr-fasteners.co.uk/m8-x-100mm-hexagon-setscrews-din-933---high-tensile-steel-88-zinc-plated-84729-p.asp

Orbital Fasteners would be my choice too, and considerably cheaper (if you're in London and buy some extra stuff to get the free delivery).

Brilliant thanks all - orbital look just the ticket!

Hi, I'm late to the list of Orbital Fasteners recommendations,
but,
if you need a longer threaded section Orbital also offer
'Set Screws' in M8 x 100mm with continuous thread at £14.23 per 100 for 100+, item no. 1851412 -
• #119568
Yup those are the ones. They're cheaper for everything else I need too so all good (washers, nuts etc).

Thought there was a computer thread but couldn’t find it so will ask here.
For my archive /back-ups I use a couple of Cal-digit drives with a removable drive tray which i usually fit whatever drives are getting good failure rates on Backblaze and will order from 2 separate brands/models. these are ‘enterprise’ drives such as this:
https://www.broadbandbuyer.com/products/45178-toshiba-hdwg440uzsva/?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAvJarBhA1EiwAGgZl0C-ygKisvhrGNQ0Wyad5zC2dUK-abHeJW3Ty-drXlWlMNtqau7-EVBoC3rMQAvD_BwEThese are designed for raid systems but i just use them as JBOD and will then take the caddy out once i’m done with them and put them in storage and occasionally refit if i need to access a file.
I presume there’s nothing fundamentally wrong with using this type of drive? I use a Mac if that makes any difference.Edit, i’ll take this to the PC tech thread

Probably a how long is a piece of string thing, but I'm in charge of making some structures out of pallet wood. Not the slats on top, the chunkier 'ribs' underneath bigger pallets, they're roughly 45x70mm in cross section. They're in variable condition from having been out in the rain, and are a bit rough. They're also quite lightweight softwood. We need to sand them, as lightly as possible, but to provide a less splintery, more hand-friendly finish. No paint/varnish will be applied.
What grit would you recommend and can it be done in one pass? 80? 120? (There is unskilled labour involved so the easier the better.)
-
• #119574
Go down to your local tool hire as you'll need a power sander anyway and they'll provide the best advice as to which grit you'll need.

you'll need a power sander
True, nobody ever got a decent finish on wood before power tools. Look how rough this 2300 year old Scythian decoration is, for example
