  • I hope she was on the wind-up and knew it would get widely shared.

  • but can he use a hammer?

  • I'm sure his father taught him how to use both a hammer and a sickle.

  • Clearly a man of the people.

  • At the same time? I'd like to see a use for this talent

  • The interview with Nadine Dorries on LBC is amazing

"Who changed your note recommending Michael Grade as head of OFCOM"

    ND "I'll never tell"

    10seconds later

    ND "It was Dougie Smith"

  • GE timing may well depend on whether or not Sunak goes for a damage limitation strategy (yes, I know...). I wouldn't rule out an election at the first hints that their vote share is trending up, in the desperate hope they can avoid a 97 style annihilation (or possibly worse).

A more interesting question is, after the surely inevitable and heavy defeat, do the far-right, 30p-Lee, Cruella headbangers totally take over, or do they move back towards more central ground?

  • do the far-right, 30p-Lee, Cruella headbangers totally take over

Part of me hopes so and they head off to the political wilderness forever, part of me knows the public will give Labour a term and then go back to 'the natural party of government' no matter what happens.

  • i’m almost tempted to say if the consequences of post coalition Tory rule is that party self destructs like that it will all be worth it. However given the numbers of unnecessary deaths due to tories in that period it would be callous, so I shan’t. Any kind of similar fantasy also has to content with the real possibility of further consolidation of hardcore right wing politics either as above describes or worse (Holland)

  • I think how long Labour last in office is contingent on inflation and economic cycles.

  • Why? He's got nothing to lose, he's not an MP so he's got no seat to lose and he got a Baronetcy out of it.

Barony rather than a baronetcy. He wouldn't get out of bed for a mere baronetcy.

  • A really heavy defeat and Boris would be eyeing a return. Boris wins against any of Braverman, Badenoch, Hunt, Mordaunt etc. they would be desperate at that stage. His 'I got Brexit done' is obvious nonsense, but it is one of the few things they can crow about over the last few years.

  • Not sure whether he'd want to take the hit to his earnings/do actual work though.

Also can't see him being interested unless there is a decent chance of winning.

  • both fair points he is a lazy oaf.

  • I think braverman will fade into insignificance now, her authoritarian views dont go down well with a great number of the far right of the party, the likes of lee Anderson, Gullis etc are gone at the next election and there her supporters .

We have no idea what bravermans economic views are she could be a communist for all we know, the Truss lot won’t support her.

  • He's not an MP, and won't be after the next election. So he doesn't have an immediate route to being Tory leader again and whichever cunt wins the race to lead the party after the election, will make damn sure Johnson doesn't get selected for any by-election.

  • Good points well made.

  • Why?

    Missed this.

Because being foreign sec for 5mins before having to work on campaigning isn't exactly the prestigious statesman role Cameron would have been after. Like Hunt he'll have assumed he'd only have this role until the GE.

  • Maybe Cameron didn't want the last ever Political image of him to be the one of him at the Lectern running away the morning after the Brexit disaster?

  • Running away seems harsh.

Pretty sure I remember him sauntering off while whistling a little tune.

  • "Oopsie, I fucked up the UK"

  • Announcing his resignation on the Friday morning just a few hours after the Brexit result is known, looks like running away to me.

  • I'm pretty sure hugo7 was being a wee bit sarcastic.

  • So lee Anderson has been recorded telling people that reform uk were offering Tory MPs 5 year guaranteed salary for defecting to them if they loss there seat at the next election. Richard Tice has denied it, because it would be a crime.

The general consensus is that Anderson was bullshitting in the hope of raising his profile. he apparently reported it to the chief whip, it all happened around the time he was made deputy chair…..

At the very least the speaker should be holding an investigation.
