Yeh I think the RB6 is mid engine.

Yeah. Digging around it's a re-re of the RB5, which is a TA B4 clone... but came before the TRF201.

I've got an original mk 1 Tamiya Hotshot that I'd like to sell on. It's got a cracked front shock mount and as a youth I drilled out the front suspension arm mounts, so the front end is incredibly loose, but I've checked online and all the spare parts are available to fix both these problems.
Would anyone be interested?
It would come with the original box, manual speed controller and manual, plus a few spare parts. -

So good.
Do you have a booth? I've written off any painting until Spring.

Looks great!
Any tips on getting clean cuts on the shell?
I have a Volvo 850 estate shell pending my on going TT02 build, that needs cutting.
I remember the hatchet job I did on the Racing Fighter body on my DT03 (not terrible, but certainly not "concours" condition, and looks a bit raggedy in places) -

A fresh blade in your scalpel and take your time. It really matters to be relaxed and have time to do it properly. Work in good natural or artificial light try to be smooth don't dig in, with a sharp blade you only need to scribe it.
Bend and break it. Practice makes perfect.👌

I'm in Scotland. No booth, I wish! I usually pick a day above zero and go for it in a garage. Heat your paint in a mug of piping hot water first. Shake it well, patience, light layers and keeping your can upright at a consistent distance on passes means a better result. 👍

You can also profile it with sandpaper or a dremel - but it's best to get a good edge from the cut.

I think it’s the garage I’m missing - the closest I have is our turbo room which opens onto the garden, but also into the bedroom… and polycarbonate paint seems to be particularly pungent!
Might have a go today, in the garden. I’m impatient.

As this seems to be the ersatz RC plane thread, perhaps I could mention the 142 kg 1/6 scale Concorde built by Otto Widlroither? It took him 3 years. Because it's over 20kg he has to apply for exemptions from aviation authorities every time he flies it. In practice he can only do this twice a year.
He loops it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Csx7K01qny0
It's all scratch built apart from the turbines and servos and things. The first year of the build was spent on computer design. He needed to sneak in under the 150kg limit, above which no RC plane gets permission to fly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHk34AjP53k&t=243s
These are the turbines. Each has a 6l tank of kerosene. https://www.jetcat.de/en/productdetails/produkte/jetcat/produkte/Professionell/p300%20pro I'm not sure they have any application other than RC planes. Amazing that they exist at all. I wonder how many they sell?
Their top model has 3 times the thrust. https://www.jetcat.de/en/productdetails/produkte/jetcat/produkte/Professionell/P1000 What would you do with it?

Just out of curiosity what's the model plane behind the concorde in the first video? Fullback, Fulcrum, Flanker?
-
• #2498
Su-35 Flanker-E. I think it's the 2 seat trainer version, the S-35UB. Edit: no it's not, it's the Su-27UB Flanker-C. I think. Edit again: the exhibition stand was taken by Frank Turbines. They are plugging the maiden flight of a Su-27UB. https://www.frankturbine.com/en/index.html

My cynical side says they sell it because they can. A jet that size with around 100kg thrust doesn’t have much practical use. It’s not big enough for a jet kart and it’s way too big for any model. Cost is probably around €10k. So what do you do with it?
Back in the late 90s / early 00s I used to build model jets. There was the pulse-jets forum and we used to build the most ridiculous pulsejets and turbines out of old turbochargers just because we could, and generally we just used to run them on the bench. Commercial turbines were available and there were people on the internet who had them, but why would would you splash out thousands on something that realistically will just sit on a bench and make a lot of noise? Of course, with people on YouTube throwing loads of Patreon money at videos now, these sorts of engines get bought and turned into money-making videos.
Here’s a guy off the old pulse-jets forum still doing it the old way (he didn’t have the huge white beard back then though):

that's freaking crazy, look at how white hot that engine gets! I would not want to sit in front of that! half throttle!
The lineage of pretty much any modern rear engine 1:10th 2wd:
Tamiya SRB -> TA RC10 -> Losi XX -> TA B4
The front end on that is very similar to the TRF 201 that is itself a (metric) B4 clone. RB6 is mid engine?
It's cool that you can buy this kind of thing though, super fun to drive on dirt.
